Official World Golf Ranking
The Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers. It was started in 1986. The rankings are based on a player's position in individual tournaments (i.e. not pairs or team events) over a "rolling" two-year period. New rankings are calculated each week. During 2018, nearly 400 tournaments on 20 tours were covered by the ranking system. All players competing in these tournaments are included in the rankings. In 2022, 23 tours factored into the world rankings. As well as being of general interest, the rankings have an additional importance, in that they are used as one of the qualifying criteria for entry into a number of leading tournaments. Jarmo Sandelin
Jarmo Sakari Sandelin (born 10 May 1967) is a Swedish professional golfer who plays on the European Senior Tour. He had five European Tour wins and played in the 1999 Ryder Cup. Early life Sandelin was born in Imatra, Finland, but grew up in Sweden and became a Swedish citizen. Professional career Sandelin turned professional in 1987 and despite several visits to qualifying school, did not win a place on the European Tour until 1995 when he graduated from the second tier Challenge Tour by finishing in 9th place on the end of season rankings in 1994. He won the Turespana Open De Canaria during his début season as he finished in 21st place on the Order of Merit and was named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. In 1996, Sandelin played on the United States-based PGA Tour, but made just one cut from 14 tournament starts during the season. Rubén Alvarez
Rubén Alvarez (30 May 1961 – 9 November 2014) was an Argentine professional golfer. Alvarez was born in Pilar, Buenos Aires. He worked as a caddie in Buenos Aires, before turning professional in 1986. Alvarez won the Argentine Qualifying School in 1986, and went on to win the Argentine Tour Ranking (Order of Merit) in 1991, but he only competed once in a major championships, the British Open in 1994. He competed on the Challenge Tour in 1991, with a best of two second-place finishes, the Ramlösa Open and the Jede Hot Cup, both held in Sweden. He competed on the European Tour from 1993 to 1995, and had two top ten finishes, coming 9th in both the 1994 Tenerife Open and the 1995 Madeira Island Open. Alvarez represented Argentina on two occasions in the World Cup, 1991 in Rome, Italy and 1992 in Madrid, Spain. He was second in the San Pablo Open (Brazil) in 1990. Alvarez died of cancer in 2014.
