Fredrik Grønningsæter
Fredrik Grønningsæter (26 May 1923 – 28 April 2016) was a bishop of the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland from 1982 until 1992. Grønningsæter was born in the municipality of Stranda in Sunnmøre, Norway on 26 May 1923. He was the son of Fredrik and Katharina (née Ottesen) Grønningsæter. His great-grandfather on his mother's side was Carl Peter Parelius Essendrop, who was also a bishop in the Church of Norway. He received his Cand.theol. degree from the MF Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo in 1951. He was ordained on 21 October 1951 by the Bishop Johannes Smemo. Grønningsæter worked as an assistant pastor at the Nidaros Cathedral from 1957 until 1962. He was then the priest of Gimsøy in Lofoten from 1962 until 1968. He worked as a priest in Oslo from 1968 until 1972 when he became the resident chaplain at the Oslo Cathedral. He served at the Oslo Cathedral from 1972 until 1982. Sør-Hålogaland is a diocese in the Church of Norway. The Diocese covers the Lutheran Church of Norway churches located within Nordland county in Norway. The diocese is headquartered in the town of Bodø at Bodø Cathedral, the seat of the presiding Bishop Ann-Helen Fjeldstad Jusnes (since 2015). The diocese is divided into eight deaneries . Sunnmøre
Sunnmøre (, en, South- Møre) is the southernmost traditional district of the western Norwegian county of Møre og Romsdal. Its main city is Ålesund. The region comprises the municipalities ( no, kommuner) of Giske, Hareid, Herøy, Norddal, Sande, Skodje, Haram, Stordal, Stranda, Sula, Sykkylven, Ulstein, Vanylven, Volda, Ørskog, Ørsta, and Ålesund. Though it is one of the three traditional districts in Møre og Romsdal, Sunnmøre is home to more than half the population of the county—with 141,755 residents, or about 54% of the population of the county. Lofoten
Lofoten () is an archipelago and a traditional district in the county of Nordland, Norway. Lofoten has distinctive scenery with dramatic mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands. There are two towns, Svolvær and Leknes – the latter is approximately north of the Arctic Circle and approximately away from the North Pole. Gimsøy Church
Gimsøy Church ( no, Gimsøy kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vågan Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Gimsøysand on the island of Gimsøya. It is the main church for the ''Gimsøy og Strauman'' parish which is part of the Lofoten prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1876 using plans drawn up by the architect Carl J. Bergstrøm. The church seats about 300 people. Nidaros Cathedral ( no, Nidarosdomen / Nidaros Domkirke) is a Church of Norway cathedral located in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county. Carl Peter Parelius Essendrop
Carl Peter Parelius Essendrop (6 June 1818 – 18 October 1893) was a Norwegian Lutheran priest, educator and Bishop of Oslo. Biography Essendrop was born Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of Peter Essendrop (1776-1819) and Martha Marie Søborg (1784-1861). His brother was Bernhard Ludvig Essendrop. He became cand.theol. in 1839. From 1842, he was a teaching assistant at Trondheim Cathedral School. In 1849 he became priest in Klæbu in Trøndelag. Essendrop was the bishop of the Diocese of Tromsø from 1861 to 1867. From 1867 to 1872 he was the vicar of the Diocese of Kristiania, and also lectured at the Royal Frederick University. From 1 July 1872 to 23 November 1874 he was the Minister of Church and Education.
