Frederick William Kahapula Beckley Sr.
Frederick William Kahapula Beckley Sr. (November 26, 1845 – January 7, 1881) was a Hawaiian high chief, who served as Governor of Kauaʻi from 1880 to 1881. Biography He was born at Waimea, on November 26, 1845, to William Charles Malulani Kaleipaihala Beckley and Kahinu o Kekuaokalani i Lekeleke. His father was one of the sons of Captain George Charles Beckley, a British sea captain and advisor of King Kamehameha I, who married the High Chiefess Ahia. His mother Kahinu was the daughter of the High Chief Hoʻolulu. His siblings were Maria Beckley Kahea and George Moʻoheau Beckley. He received a good education. On December 3, 1867, Beckley married part-Hawaiian Emma Kaili Metcalf (1847–1929) and had a total of seven children including son Frederick William Kahapula Beckley Jr. (1874–1943) and daughter Sabina Beckley Hutchinson (1868–1935). Governor Of Kauai
The Governor of Kauai ( haw, Kiaaina o Kauai) was the royal governor or viceroy of the island of Kauai and island of Niihau during the Kingdom of Hawaii. The Governor of Kauai was usually a Hawaiian chief or prince and could even be a woman. The governor had authority over the islands of Kauai and Niihau, and it was up to the governor to appoint lieutenant governors to assist them. The governor had replaced the old alii aimokus of the islands, but the sovereignty remained with the king. The first governor was the last king of Kaumualii, and it was not until his death in 1824 that Queen Kaahumanu and King Kamehameha II took control from his sons. The island governors were under the jurisdiction of the Ministers of the Interiors. George Charles Moʻoheau Beckley
George Charles Mo'oheau Kauluheimalama Beckley (May 5, 1849 – July 4, 1910) was a member of Liliʻuokalani's Privy Council of State from 1891 to 1892, and a director of the Wilder Steamship Company. Born of Hawaiian and British ancestry, his native Hawaiian forebearers were reputed to have helped hide the bones of Kamehameha I. Like his British grandfather who was an advisor to Kamehameha I, he chose a life sailing the seas. In his youth, he joined whaling expeditions and survived a hijacking spree by pirates who captured 29 ships. Beckley was one of 50 Hawaiian crew members who were rescued from multiple vessels and sent safely back to Hawaii. He found his life's career with Hawaii's inter-island steamships, where he partnered with Samuel G. Wilder. Beckley was awarded the Royal Order of the Star of Oceania and the Order of the Crown of Hawaii by King Kalākaua. Kalihi
Kalihi is a neighborhood of Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi, United States. Split by the Likelike Highway (Route 63), it is flanked by downtown Honolulu to the east and Mapunapuna, Moanalua and Salt Lake to the west. Kalihi is the name of the '' ahupuaʻa'' (ancient land division) between Kahauiki and Kapālama in the Kona (now Honolulu) district of O'ahu. The ahupua'a consists of Kalihi Uka, Kalihi Waena and Kalihi Kai. Historically, Kalihi Kai was the site of the former Leprosy Receiving Station, where those suspected of leprosy were examined prior to treatment or being sent to Kalaupapa on the island of Molokaʻi. Kalihi was also known for its fishponds, ʻĀpili, Pahouiki, Pahounui, ʻAuiki, and Ananoho, near the present Sand Island Access Road (Route 64) all of which have since been filled in. Edema, also spelled oedema, and also known as fluid retention, dropsy, hydropsy and swelling, is the build-up of fluid in the body's Tissue (biology), tissue. Most commonly, the legs or arms are affected. Symptoms may include skin which feels tight, the area may feel heavy, and joint stiffness. Other symptoms depend on the underlying cause. Causes may include Chronic venous insufficiency, venous insufficiency, heart failure, kidney problems, hypoalbuminemia, low protein levels, liver problems, deep vein thrombosis, infections, angioedema, certain medications, and lymphedema. The Minister of the Interior ( haw, Kuhina Kalaianaina) was a powerful office in the Kingdom of Hawaii, the Provisional Government of Hawaii and the Republic of Hawaii from 1845 to 1900. It made up one of the four offices of the monarchical or presidential cabinet which advised the Head of State of Hawaii on executive affairs. During the monarchy, ministers were also ex-officio members of the Privy Council and the House of Nobles in the legislature. During the republic, ministers were ex-officio members of both houses of the legislature. The head of state had the power to appoint the ministers but later Hawaiian constitutions limited the power the head of state had in removing the cabinet ministers by requiring a vote of no confidence from a majority of the elective members of the legislature. Lanai
Lanai ( haw, Lānai, , , also ,) is the sixth-largest of the Hawaiian Islands and the smallest publicly accessible inhabited island in the chain.
