Frederick Dent Grant
Frederick Dent Grant (May 30, 1850 – April 12, 1912) was a soldier and United States minister to Austria-Hungary. Grant was the first son of General and President of the United States Ulysses S. Grant and Julia Grant. He was named after his uncle, Frederick Dent. Early life His father was in the United States Army when Frederick was born in St. Louis, Missouri. The family moved as the senior Grant was assigned to posts in Michigan and New York. Frederick spent his early childhood at his paternal grandparents' house while his father was stationed on the West Coast. After his father's resignation from the army, the family lived in St. Louis and in Galena, Illinois. Grant attended public school in Galena until the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861. Grant's father organized a volunteer regiment and was made colonel. Frederick accompanied his father when the regiment was sent to northern Missouri, but he was sent home when it arrived. Fred Grant (cricketer)
Frederick Geddes Grant (4 October 1891 – 26 June 1946) was a Trinidadian cricketer, cricket administrator and businessman. Life and career Fred Grant was the oldest of 10 children of Thomas Geddes Grant (born in Canada in 1866), who founded a trading company, T. Geddes Grant, in Trinidad in 1901. He was born in 1891 in Port of Spain, where he went to school at Queen's Royal College, and later had his university education in Canada. A middle-order batsman and change bowler, Grant played six first-class matches for Trinidad between 1925 and 1927. When Trinidad won the final of the Inter-Colonial Tournament in 1925-26 he top-scored in Trinidad's successful run-chase in the second innings with 45. He captained Trinidad in 1926-27 when they lost the final to Barbados after leading by 384 on the first innings. Grant was President of the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in the 1930s. Freddy Grant
Frederick Josiah Grant (1905 – 1986) was a British Guiana-born jazz and calypso musician who played saxophone and clarinet. Between the mid-1930s and mid-1950s he was active in Britain, before moving to the United States. Biography Grant was born in British Guiana. He toured South America as a member of Vicente Gomez's band, before moving to Trinidad in 1933 where he joined the Trinidad Constabulary Band. In 1937, he moved to England, and worked with several jazz and swing bands, including those led by Joe Appleton, Fela Sowande, Rudolph Dunbar, Johnny Claes, and Cyril Blake. In 1942 he joined the Royal Air Force for two years, and on his discharge joined the bands led by Carlo Krahmer and Leslie "Jiver" Hutchinson. Fred Grant (gridiron Football)
Frederick W. Grant Jr. (January 20, 1925 – August 3, 1993) was an American football player and coach who played fullback for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team and was the head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Early life Grant was born on January 20, 1925, in Christiansburg, Virginia. His parents, Fred and Zenith Grant, owned Grant's Tavern in Christiansburg. Playing Grant was a standout athlete at Christiansburg High School and played for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in 1943. In his only season at Wake Forest, Grant led the Southern Conference in scoring. Grant transferred to the University of Alabama in 1944. On November 18, 1944, he ran back an interception for an 87-yard touchdown to help the Tide defeat the undefeated Mississippi State Maroons 19–0.
