Fred Davis (snooker Player)
Fred Davis (14 August 1913 – 16 April 1998) was an English professional player of snooker and English billiards. He was an eight-time World Snooker Championship winner from 1948 World Snooker Championship, 1948 to 1956 World Professional Match-play Championship, 1956, and a two-time winner of the World Billiards Championship (English billiards), World Billiards Championship. He was the brother of 15-time world snooker champion Joe Davis; the pair were the only two players to win both snooker and English billiards world championships, and Fred is second on the list of those holding most world snooker championship titles, behind Joe. Davis' professional career started in 1929 at the age of 15 as a billiards player. Frederick Lewis Davis (30 January 1863 − 17 May 1920) was a Liberal politician and a member of a notable family of coal owners in South Wales. His grandfather, David Davis, Blaengwawr was a pioneer of the coal trade in the Aberdare valley while his father, Lewis Davis and uncle, David Davis, Maesyffynnon developed the business and were pioneers of the coal trade in the Rhondda, most notably at Ferndale. Having trained as a barrister, Davis joined the family business. Political career In 1885, Davis was chosen as the Liberal candidate for the new Rhondda constituency but he was opposed by the trade union leader, William Abraham (Mabon). Fred Henry Davis (May 18, 1894 – June 20, 1937) was an American attorney and politician from the state of Florida, serving as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Florida from 1933 until 1935. Early life and military service Davis was born on May 18, 1894, in Greenville, South Carolina, though he settled in Tallahassee, Florida, with his family at an early age. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1914 and became a practicing attorney in Wakulla County, Florida. In 1917, Davis, a Democrat, became the Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. He resigned the same year to enlist in the Florida Army National Guard, serving as a private with the 124th Infantry during World War I, though he did not go overseas with the American Expeditionary Force. Frederick Langdon Davis, (August 6, 1868 – April 9, 1951) was a lawyer and political figure in Manitoba, Canada. He represented Neepawa in the House of Commons of Canada as a Unionist member. He was born in Belleville, Ontario, the son of James A. Davis and Sarah Way. Davis came to Winnipeg in 1881 and studied at the University of Manitoba. He articled in law with Frank Stayner Nugent and then William Egerton Perdue, entered practice in 1893 and was called to the Manitoba bar in 1900. He set up practice in Neepawa. Fred Davis (10 August 1921 – 5 July 1996) was a Canadians, Canadian broadcaster, best known as host of the CBC Television programme ''Front Page Challenge'' for nearly all of its 38-year run. Alfred Thomas "Fred" Davis (March 26, 1868 – July 24, 1945) was a farmer and a politician on the federal and provincial level in Canada. He was born in 1868 in Mitchell, Ontario to William J. Davis and Tabitha Worth. He married Margaret Davidson in 1898. Political career Davis first began his political career as a municipal councilor in his home town of Mitchell, Ontario.
