Frederic Conant
Frederic Warren Conant (February 9, 1892 – March 24, 1974) was an American sailor who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics. Conant, who went by "Ted", was born in Santa Barbara, California. He studied civil engineering at Cornell University, graduating in 1914. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and later fought in the Battle of Fort Hidalgo. He married Dorothy Davis in 1918 and they had two sons, Peter and Dick. After leaving military service he worked at his brother-in-law's architectural firm and built his own house in Hollywood in 1925. The firm folded after the Wall Street crash of 1929. 1932 Summer Olympics
The 1932 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the X Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1932) were an international multi-sport event held from July 30 to August 14, 1932 in Los Angeles, California, United States. The Games were held during the worldwide Great Depression, with some nations not traveling to Los Angeles; 37 nations competed, compared to the 46 in the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, and then-U.S. President Herbert Hoover did not attend the Games. The organizing committee did not report the financial details of the Games, although contemporary newspapers claimed that the Games had made a profit of US$1,000,000. Sailing At The 1932 Summer Olympics
Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad (1896 Olympics in Athens Greece). With the exception of 1904 and the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1932 consisted of a total of four sailing classes (disciplines). For each class races were scheduled from 5–12 August directly off the Los Angeles Harbor on the Pacific Ocean. The International Six Metre class is a class of classic racing yachts. Sixes are a '' construction class'', meaning that the boats are not identical but are all designed to meet specific measurement formula, in this case International rule. At their heyday, Sixes were the most important international yacht racing class, and they are still raced around the world.
