Frederic Wanklyn Williams (1854–1940) was a notable New Zealand business proprietor, company director and community leader. He was born in Whakato, East Coast, New Zealand in 1854. F W Williams was the eldest child of the Bishop of Waiapu. The Mayor of Napier is the head of the municipal government of Napier, New Zealand, and presides over the Napier City Council. Napier is New Zealand's ninth largest city. The first mayor was elected in 1875. The current mayor is Kirsten Wise. History The Māori sold a block of land called Ahuriri in 1851, and in 1853 Donald McLean bought the site that later became Napier. Alfred Domett, a future Prime Minister of New Zealand, was appointed as the Commissioner of Crown Lands and the resident magistrate at the village of Ahuriri. It was decided to place a planned town here, its streets and avenues were laid out, and the new town named for Sir Charles Napier. John McVay
John Edward McVay (January 5, 1931 – October 31, 2022) was an American football coach and executive. He rose through the coaching ranks from high school, through the college level, and to the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Miami University in Ohio, starring as a center. Early life Born in Bellaire, Ohio, McVay later moved to Massillon where he played high school football for Massillon Washington High School and was named second-team All-Ohio. McVay played college football at Miami University. He later married and had three boys, John, Jim, and Tim. His grandson, Sean McVay, son of Tim, is currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. Leonard Williams (bishop)
William Leonard Williams (1829–1916) was an Anglican bishop of Waiapu. He was regarded as an eminent scholar of the Māori language. His father, William Williams, was the first Bishop of Waiapu, Williams was the third bishop, "Who was Who" 1897–1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 and his son, Herbert Williams, was the sixth bishop of Waiapu. Early life Williams was born on the 22 July 1829 at Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand. He was the third child and first son of William Williams, of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), and his wife, Jane. Williams was educated in New Zealand before attending Magdelen Hall (now Hertford College, Oxford) from 1847 where he obtained a third class honours degree in June 1852. Williams & Kettle Limited with headquarters in Napier, New Zealand, owned a stock and station agency business and a general merchants business with branches throughout the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Incorporated as a co-operative in 1891, it had been founded in 1885 by landowner and businessman Frederic Williams (1854–1940) with Nathaniel Kettle (1854–1940), a brother-in-law of John Roberts the local principal of Dunedin's Murray Roberts and a former Murray Roberts & Co employee. Establishment Williams had set himself up in his own custom house agency in 1880 after forming a good relationship with William Nelson and becoming agent for his new Nelson Brothers' boiling down and canned-meat plant which Nelson was establishing at Tomoana just north of Hastings in conjunction with Frederic's uncle, J N Williams.
