Fred Thompson (footballer, Born C. 1873)
Frederick Thompson (c. 1873 − 13 January 1958) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League around the turn of the 20th century. Playing for Bury, he was an FA Cup winner in 1900. Playing career Born in South Hetton in the north east of England, Thompson first played for Sunderland in the 1895−96 season. He went to Bury, playing with them when they won the FA Cup final at Crystal Palace in 1900. South Hetton
South Hetton is a former mining village in the County Durham district of the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. It is situated to the east of Durham and to the south of Sunderland as the crow flies. It had a population of 2,618 according to the 2001 Census, rising to 3,032 at the 2011 Census, with the latest estimate being 3,036 in 2019 History South Hetton Colliery The history of South Hetton is closely related to South Hetton Colliery. The South Hetton Coal Company, owned by Colonel Thomas Bradyll, first sank shafts in 1831. Large scale production began two years later and corresponded with a large increase in population. Employment peaked in the 1930s when over 1400 people worked at the colliery. However, activity declined in the latter half of the twentieth century with the colliery ceasing operations in 1982. Brodsworth Welfare A
Brodsworth is a village, civil parish and suburb of Doncaster in the City of Doncaster district in South Yorkshire, England. situated about five miles north-west of Doncaster. According to the 2001 census, it had a population of 2,875, increasing to 2,936 at the 2011 Census. Historically, the parish of Brodsworth was much larger, but with the sinking of Brodsworth Colliery by the owners of Brodsworth Hall, the model village of Woodlands was built two miles away. On 1 April 1915, Woodlands was added to the parish of Adwick-le-Street since the colliery town had expanded to the stage where it joined Adwick. Brodsworth remained as a collection of farms and the estate village. The local church, St Michael's, is an 11th-century church sited close to the hall built by the Thellusson family, owners of Brodsworth Hall, and is one of the four churches within the parish of Bilham, which is in the Sheffield diocese.
