Frederick John Robinson (13 June 1938 – 23 November 2000) was an Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1960s. A defender, Robinson was recruited from Kyabram District Football League club Murchison and played four games in his debut season but ten in the 1961 VFL season, gathering three Brownlow Medal votes. After managing only one appearance in 1962, Robinson joined Victorian Football Association (VFA) club Brunswick and performed well for the club as a full-back. He finished third in the J. J. Liston Trophy in 1965, and was a VFA representative at the 1966 Hobart Carnival. Fred Robinson was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. He played for Eastern Suburbs in the NSWRL competition during the club's second golden era where they won 4 premierships in 6 seasons. Playing career Robinson made his first grade debut for Easts against University at Pratten Park in Round 7 1933. Robinson played sporadically for Easts over the next 3 years and missed out on playing in the club's premiership victories in 1935 and 1936 but was a part of the side which won the premiership in 1937. The 1937 premiership was won without the need to play in a grand final or finals series. In 1938, Robinson finished as top point scorer and top try scorer for the club. Eastern Suburbs would go on to finish 3rd at the end of the regular season and reached the grand final against Canterbury-Bankstown who were playing in their first decider whilst Easts were going for their 4th premiership in a row. Fred Norris Robinson (April 4, 1871 – July 21, 1966), professionally known as F. N. Robinson, was an eminent American Celticist and scholar of Geoffrey Chaucer. Biography Robinson received his B.A. (1891), M.A. (1892), and PhD (1894) from Harvard University, working with the eminent medievalists Francis James Child and George Lyman Kittredge. In 1936, after appointments at Harvard as instructor (1894), assistant professor (1902), and professor (1906), he succeeded his thesis adviser, Kittredge, as Gurney Professor of English. In 1895, he spent a year abroad at the University of Freiburg, Germany, working with Rudolph Turneysen, one of the founders of Celtic Philology. Frederick L. Robinson (February 20, 1901 – April 11, 1984) was an American jazz trombonist known for his work with Louis Armstrong and other jazz groups. Early life Robinson was born on February 20, 1901 in Memphis, Tennessee. Robinson learned to play trombone in high school. He studied at the Dana Musical Institute in Ohio. Career Robinson moved to Chicago in 1927. There, he joined Carroll Dickerson's orchestra. In 1928, Robinson travelled to New York to play in Louis Armstrong's big band. Robinson played on Louis Armstrong's Hot Five recordings and continued working with both Dickerson and Armstrong until late 1929 when he took a position in Edgar Hayes's band. In the 1930s, Robinson worked alongside Marion Hardy, Don Redman, Benny Carter, Charlie Turner, Fletcher Henderson, and Fats Waller. In 1939 and 1940 he joined Andy Kirk's band. Frederick Lee Shuttlesworth (born Fred Lee Robinson, March 18, 1922 – October 5, 2011) was a U.S. civil rights activist who led the fight against segregation and other forms of racism as a minister in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a co-founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, initiated and was instrumental in the 1963 Birmingham Campaign, and continued to work against racism and for alleviation of the problems of the homeless in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he took up a pastorate in 1961. He returned to Birmingham after his retirement in 2007. He worked with Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement, though the two men often disagreed on tactics and approaches.
