Fred Risser (Progressive Politician)
Frederic Emanuel Risser (January 15, 1900September 1, 1971) was an American lawyer and Progressive politician. He served twelve years as a member of the Wisconsin State Senate from Dane County. He was the father of Wisconsin state senator Fred A. Risser, the longest-serving state legislator in American history. Early life and education Risser was born in the Buffalo, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, on January 15, 1900. After he graduated from Winona High School in Winona, Minnesota, he spent two years on his father's farm before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1923 and his LL.B. in 1925. Career He taught at Beaver Dam High School for one year, and in 1925 became a practicing attorney in Madison, Wisconsin, entering the law firm of and eventually forming a partnership with former state legislator Ernest Warner. Wisconsin's 26th State Senate District
The 26th Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in south-central Wisconsin, the district comprises nearly all of the city of Madison, Wisconsin, in central Dane County. The district contains landmarks such as the Wisconsin State Capitol, the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus, the University of Wisconsin Arboretum, historic Forest Hill Cemetery, Edgewood College, Monona Terrace, and the Kohl Center. Wisconsin State Senate
The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly. Currently, Wisconsin is divided into 33 Senate Districts (1/3 of the current Assembly membership of 99) apportioned throughout the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 33 senators. Madison was a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 6,236 at the 2020 census. The town, although once larger, was broken up into discontinuous fragments by the much larger city of Madison, and was dissolved by merging parts of the town with the cities of Madison and Fitchburg on October 30, 2022. The majority of the town's territory was situated along Highway 12/18, comprising several neighborhoods situated between the south side of the city of Madison, and the north side of the city of Fitchburg.
