Parker Knoll is a British furniture manufacturing company, formed in 1931 by British furniture manufacturer Frederick Parker and Willi Knoll, a German inventor of a new form of sprung furniture. With roots in the manufacture of high-quality furniture, the brand concentrated on mass-market products from the 1930s to the 1990s. The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1950, but taken private in 2004. After financial problems, it was acquired out of administration by Sofa Brands International. In recent years, the brand has moved back to the higher-quality end of the domestic furniture market. Frederick Parker Frederick Parker was born in Shoreditch in 1845. Frederick Parker (cricketer)
Frederick Anthony Vivian Parker (11 February 1913 — 26 May 1988) was an English first-class cricketer and British Army officer. The son of William Parker, he was born at Westminster in February 1913. He was educated at Winchester College, before attending the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Parker was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade as a second lieutenant in February 1933, with promotion to lieutenant in February 1936. He served in the Second World War, during which he was promoted to captain in February 1941. Following the war, he made his debut in first-class cricket for Hampshire against the touring Indians at Southampton in 1946. In that same season, he made three first-class appearances for the Combined Services cricket team, prior to making a second appearance for Hampshire against Kent at Canterbury. His grandparents were from Kentucky, and his father was the deputy treasurer of Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Parker graduated from Purdue University in 1898 with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for a circus, and then moved to Chicago where he worked as a patent attorney, inventor, and electrician. Frederick Parker (18 June 1886 – 5 January 1963), also known as Spider Parker or Bassie Parker, was an English professional footballer who played as a forward in the Football League for Clapton Orient. He was the first person to enlist in the Football Battalion during the First World War. He later served as manager of Folkestone. Personal life Parker was married with five children. During his early football career, he worked as a carter on the Isle of Portland. Parker served as a colour sergeant with the Football Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment during the First World War. As captain of Clapton Orient, he was the first person to enlist in the newly formed battalion in December 1914. Parker suffered with trench foot in 1917 and was lightly wounded in April 1918. After his retirement from football, Parker worked as a porter at London King's Cross railway station and as a cleaner at government offices.
