Fred Lynch
Frederick "Fred" Lynch (born 10 May 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Lynch appeared in six of the opening eight rounds of the 1956 VFL season, while on permit from Coragulac. He wasn't able to fully commit to Essendon due to his farm work and chose to remain in the Hampden Football League. A half back flanker, he played briefly for Colac, before returning to Coragulac in 1959. He won the Maskell Medal in 1961. Essendon Football Club
The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale, Victoria, Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The club’s first recorded game took place on 7 June 1873 against a Carlton Second 20. From 1878 until 1896, the club played in the Victorian Football Association then joined seven other clubs in October 1896 to form the breakaway Victorian Football League (later changed to AFL in 1990). Headquartered at the Essendon Recreation Ground, known as Windy Hill, from 1922 to 2013, the club moved to The Hangar in near Tullamarine in late 2013 on land owned the Melbourne Airport. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. Hampden Football League
The Hampden Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league based in South-Western Victoria, with clubs located in towns along or near the Princes Highway from Camperdown to Portland. The league is a major country league. It comprises an amalgamation of the Hampden Football League with the women's netball league with the same teams and playing draw. Paul Lynch (footballer)
Paul Lynch (born 18 October 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Australian Football League (AFL). Lynch was an injury-prone player due to an unusual build where the base of his back was straight instead of inverted. As a result, he suffered from back, lower leg and in particular hamstring problems. After sporadic appearances in his first two seasons, Lynch put together 14 games in 1995, including a qualifying final. He kicked 20 goals in 1997 and had a great run of form midway through the year, polling three, two and three Brownlow Medal votes in successive weeks. However, hamstring and back injuries would see him play just 19 further games over three seasons before being de-listed.
