Fred Crawford (American Football)
Frederick Eugene Crawford (July 27, 1910 – March 5, 1974) was an American gridiron football player during the 1930s. He played college football for Duke, and later played one season in the National Football League (NFL). He was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973. Biography Crawford was born in 1910 in Waynesville, North Carolina, the son of congressman William T. Crawford. He attended both Waynesville Township high school and The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. College football Crawford played at tackle and end for Wallace Wade's Duke Blue Devils, selected All-Southern in 1932 and a consensus All-American in 1933. Crawford was the first football player to gain first-team All-America honors from the state of North Carolina. He was mainly responsible in 1933 for the defeat of the Tennessee Volunteers, that team's first loss in over two and a half seasons. Freddie Crawford
Frederick Russell Crawford Jr. (born December 23, 1941) is a former American basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Crawford was drafted in the fourth round of the 1964 NBA draft by the New York Knicks. Previously, he had been drafted by the Knicks in the 1963 NBA draft. He eventually played with the Knicks in the NBA in 1967. The following year, he was sold to the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1969, he was again sold, this time to the Milwaukee Bucks. Later, Crawford was selected by the Buffalo Braves in the 1970 NBA Expansion Draft. He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers later that year. Frederick Crawford (colonial Administrator)
Sir Frederick Crawford (9 March 1906 – 27 May 1978) was a British colonial administrator. Life He was Governor of the Seychelles between 1951 and 1953. He was Deputy Governor of Kenya from 1953 to 1957 during the Mau Mau uprising. He was Governor of Uganda from 1957 to 1961. As governor of Uganda he believed it was too soon grant independence to Uganda, because he did not believe Uganda's economy could support itself as of the 1950s. However, he said he did favour the idea of independence, and that the British should begin laying the groundwork to make an independent Uganda economically sound. When Tanganyika was given independence Crawford felt this added pressure on himself to hurry up the timeline with regards to Uganda's independence. He believed that Uganda was far more prepared for independence than Tanganyika had been, with much more infrastructure, far more positions in the government already filled by Africans, and a more diversified economy.
