Fred Campbell (Idaho Politician)
Frederick Campbell (October 18, 1830 – January 13, 1913) was an American politician who was a pioneer of the Idaho Territory. Biography Campbell was born on October 18, 1830, in Ravenna, Ohio, and made his way West to the Boise Basin of Idaho in 1862. He took up mining in Placerville, where he would live until 1901. He also took part in skirmishes with the local Native American population. He was elected four times as a Republican to represent Boise County in the Idaho Territorial House of Representatives, in 1872, 1874, 1880, and 1882. He lost an election for Boise County Assessor in 1878, and served as assistant clerk for the Idaho Territorial Council in the 1884–1885 session. Campbell was elected to the territorial council in 1888 to represent Ada and Boise Counties. The Idaho Constitution Convention drafted the Idaho Constitution in 1889 in preparation for the Idaho Territory to become a U.S. state. History Background On April 2, 1889, outgoing Territorial Governor Edward A. Stevenson, who had successfully prevented the territory from being absorbed by neighboring territories, issued a proclamation calling for an election to be held on June 3 of that year, to elect 72 delegates to a constitutional convention. On May 11, Stevenson's successor, George L. Shoup, issued a proclamation endorsing the convention, which was scheduled to meet on July 4 in Boise. Idaho, like its fellow statehood-seeking territory, Wyoming, was not the subject of an enabling act, as other statehood-seeking territories usually were before holding a constitutional convention. Placerville, Idaho
Placerville is a populated place in Boise County, Idaho, United States. The population was 53 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boise City– Nampa, Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Placerville received its name because of placer mining in the vicinity. The ghost town is located 17 miles east of Horseshoe Bend. The townsite was selected December 1, 1862; and by December 16 there were six cabins in the camp. By the early summer of 1863, the town had 300 buildings and a population of 5,000. At the meeting of the first legislature held in Lewiston in 1863, the citizens obtained a charter for their city. Father Mesplie, a Catholic priest, held the first church service January 4, 1864, and in that same year a stage line was established between the Basin and Wallua to carry Wells Fargo express. Boise County is a rural mountain county in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 7,610. The county seat is historic Idaho City, which is connected through a series of paved and unpaved roads to Lowman, Centerville, Placerville, Pioneerville, Star Ranch, Crouch, Garden Valley, and Horseshoe Bend. Boise County is part of the Boise, ID Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Bogus Basin ski area is in the southwestern part of the county.
