Fred Archer (jockey)
Frederick James Archer (11 January 1857 – 8 November 1886), also known by the nickname The Tin Man, was an English flat race jockey of the Victorian era, described as "the best all-round jockey that the turf has ever seen". He was Champion Jockey for 13 consecutive years until 1886, riding 2,748 winners from 8,084 starts, in so doing setting records for the number of Champion Jockey titles (13), number of wins in a season (246) and number of race wins (2748) which remained unthreatened until the arrival of Steve Donoghue and Sir Gordon Richards well into the 20th century. Delirious from wasting and the loss of his wife during childbirth, he committed suicide at the age of 29. Frederick Scott Archer
] Frederick Scott Archer (1813 – 1 May 1857) was an English photographer and sculptor who is best known for having invented the photographic collodion process which preceded the modern gelatin emulsion. He was born in either Bishop's Stortford or Hertford, within the county of Hertfordshire, England (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland) and is remembered mainly for this single achievement which greatly increased the accessibility of photography for the general public. Life Scott Archer was the second son of a butcher in Bishops Stortford in Hertfordshire who went to London to take an apprenticeship as a goldsmith and silversmith with a Mr Massey of 116 Leadenhall Street. On the recommendation of Edward Hawkins he trained at the Royal Academy Schools a sculptor and found calotype photography useful as a way of capturing images of his sculptures. Frederick Marvin Archer (March 7, 1910 – October 31, 1981), also known as "Lefty" Archer, was an American professional baseball player whose career spanned 10 seasons, including parts of two in Major League Baseball with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1936 and 1937. Over his major league career, Archer would compile a record of 2–3 with a 6.35 earned run average (ERA) and 11 strikeouts in seven games, five starts. He also pitched in the minor leagues with the Class-D Leaksville-Draper-Spray Triplets, the Class-A Williamsport Grays, the Double-A Buffalo Bisons, the Class-D Lexington Indians, the Class-A1 New Orleans Pelicans, the Class-B Hazleton Mountaineers, the Class-B Lancaster Red Roses, the Class-B Winston-Salem Twins, the Class-D Landis Senators, the Class-D Statesville Owls and the Class-D Kingsport Cherokees. Frederic Archer (16 June 1838 – 22 October 1901) was a British composer, conductor and organist, born in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He studied music in London and Leipzig, and held musical positions in England and Scotland until 1880, when he became organist of Plymouth Church in Brooklyn, New York.
