Freccia IFV
The Freccia ( it, Arrow) is an Italian 8x8 wheeled Infantry fighting vehicle in use with the Italian Army. The first batch of 249 vehicles were ordered to replace Cold War VCC-2 armoured personnel carriers of the Mechanized Brigade "Pinerolo" in Southern Italy. The Freccia is built by a consortium combining Iveco (hull, engine, suspension) and Oto Melara (armament). Design The Freccia is up-armoured and improved variant of the wheeled Centauro tank destroyer fitted with the Hitfist turret (an evolution of the turret used on the Dardo infantry fighting vehicle), which is armed with an Oerlikon KBA 25mm autocannon and carries 200 rounds of 25×137mm ammunition. Two 7.62mm NATO machine guns are also fitted. Additionally, a pair of Spike MR/LR anti-tank missiles can be fitted on the turret. Pinerolo (; pms, Pinareul ; french: Pignerol; oc, Pineròl) is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, northwestern Italy, southwest of Turin on the river Chisone. Dardo IFV
The Dardo is an infantry fighting vehicle designed for the Italian Army as a replacement for the M113 APC. It is designed and built by the Iveco Fiat Oto Melara Syndicated Company based in Rome. Iveco is responsible for the hull and propulsion systems, while Oto Melara is responsible for the weapons and fire control systems. Description Armament The Dardo is primarily armed with the 25mm Oerlikon KBA automatic cannon firing 600 rounds per minute, with 200 rounds of ready to fire ammunition stored in the turret. 82nd Infantry Regiment "Torino"
The 82nd Infantry Regiment "Torino" ( it, 82° Reggimento Fanteria "Torino") is an active unit of the Italian Army based in Barletta in Apulia. The regiment is named for the city of Turin and part of the Italian Army's infantry arm. As of 2023 the regiment is assigned to the Mechanized Brigade "Pinerolo". The regiment was one of sixteen infantry regiments formed on 1 November 1884. In 1911-12 the regiment participated in the Italo-Turkish War. During World War I the regiment fought on the Italian front. The regiment was disbanded in 1926 and reformed in July 1938. During World War II the regiment was assigned to the 52nd Infantry Division "Torino", with which it participated in the invasion of Yugoslavia. 30 mm caliber is a specific size of popular autocannon ammunition. Hitfist OWS
Hitfist OWS is a remotely operated turret, for armored vehicles, developed by the Italian Oto Melara and derived from Hitfist. The turrets are designed to mount a main armament of an autocannon of 25 or 30 mm. The main armament may mount a co-axial machine gun. A variant allows the operator to aim and fire anti-tank missiles. The turret is normally operated by a gunner who remains inside the vehicle, using remote optics and remote control. However, in the event of a power failure, the gunner can use a hatch primarily designed for reloading ammunition to aim and fire the turrets weapons manually. In 2010 Oto Melara licensed Bumar-Labedy, a manufacturer in Poland, to manufacture the turret for Poland's armed forces. The 2R2M (''Rifled Recoiled Mounted Mortar'') is a vehicle-mounted, rifled 120 mm heavy mortar produced by Thales of France. It is derived from the MO-120-RT towed mortar. The 2R2M is in service with 5 nations. The US Marine Corps field-tested a mortar system derived from the 2R2M in the early 2000's under the project names ''Dragon Fire'' and ''Dragon Fire II''. Mechanized Brigade "Aosta"
The Mechanized Brigade "Aosta" ( it, Brigata Meccanizzata "Aosta") is a mechanized infantry brigade of the Italian Army based on the island of Sicily. The Brigade is one of the oldest of the Italian Army and the name connects the brigade to its original area of recruitment the Aosta Valley and therefore the brigade's coat of arms is modeled after the coat of arms of Aosta.
