François Salque
François Salque is a contemporary French classical cellist and academic teacher. Life and career A graduate from Yale University, Salque teaches at the Haute École de musique de Lausanne and at the Conservatoire de Paris. He has played and recorded chamber music with Éric Le Sage, Alexandre Tharaud, Emmanuel Pahud and Vincent Peirani. Salque also played in the Ysaÿe Quartet from 2000 to 2004, recording Fauré, Magnard, Haydn, Schumann, Boucourechliev, but also little known works or fragments by Beethoven, the piano quintet by César Franck (with Pascal Rogé) and the Clarinet Quintet by Mozart (with Michel Portal). Nicolas Bacri, Karol Beffa, Thierry Escaich, Bruno Mantovani and Krystof Maratka have dedicated works to him. The Haute école de musique de Lausanne (HEMU, known as Institute of Advanced Musical Studies prior to 2010, founded in 1861 as Conservatoire de Lausanne) is a Swiss music school located in Romandy, the French-speaking western part of Switzerland. César Franck
César Auguste Jean Guillaume Hubert Franck (; 10 December 1822 – 8 November 1890) was a French Romantic music, Romantic composer, pianist, organist, and music teacher born in present-day Belgium. He was born in Liège (which at the time of his birth was part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands). He gave his first concerts there in 1834 and studied privately in Paris from 1835, where his teachers included Anton Reicha. After a brief return to Belgium, and a disastrous reception of an early oratorio ''Ruth'', he moved to Paris, where he married and embarked on a career as teacher and organist. He gained a reputation as a formidable musical improviser, and travelled widely within France to demonstrate new instruments built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. Bruno Mantovani
Bruno Mantovani (born 8 October 1974) is a French composer. He has been awarded first prizes from the Conservatoire de Paris which he joined in 1993. His work has been commissioned by the French government as well as other organizations. In September 2010 he was appointed to the post of director of the Paris Conservatory. Biography At 37, Bruno Mantovani became the director of the Conservatoire de Paris. In October 2018, his new composition ''Threnos'' was premiered at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Marin Alsop. Thierry Joseph-Louis Escaich (born 8 May 1965) is a French organist and composer. Life Born in Nogent-sur-Marne, Escaich studied organ, improvisation and composition at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP), where he won eight First Prizes and where he has taught improvisation and composition since 1992. Together with Vincent Warnier, he was appointed organist of Saint-Étienne-du-Mont church in Paris in 1996 (succeeding Maurice Duruflé). He tours internationally as a performing artist and composer. His passion for the cinema has led him to improvise on the piano and the organ; he composed music for Frank Borzage's silent film '' Seventh Heaven'', commissioned by the Louvre in 1999. Karol Beffa, born on in Paris, is a French and Swiss composer and pianist. Biography Beffa is the son of French-Swiss linguist and ethnologist Marie-Lise Beffa and French linguist , and the nephew of industrialist Jean-Louis Beffa. He studied at École normale supérieure, then economics at ENSAE Paris and at Trinity College, Cambridge. Nicolas Bacri (born 23 November 1961) is a French composer who has written more than one hundred works, including symphonies, string quartets, and violin concertos. Career Nicolas Bacri was born in Paris, France. His musical studies began with piano lessons at the age of seven. He continued to study harmony, counterpoint, analysis and composition as a teenager with Françoise Levechin-Gangloff and Christian Manen. After 1979, he continued his studies with Louis Saguer. Michel Portal
Michel Portal (born 27 November 1935) is a French composer, saxophonist, and clarinetist. He plays both jazz and classical music and is considered to be "one of the architects of modern European jazz". Early life Portal was born in Bayonne on 27 November 1935. His family was musical and there were several instruments in his house when he was growing up. His interest in jazz began after hearing it on the radio after World War II. He studied clarinet at the Conservatoire de Paris and conducting with Pierre Dervaux.
