François Alfonsi
François Alfonsi (born 14 September 1953) is a French politician. He was a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 until 2014 for the South-East France constituency. He was reelected to that position in May 2019. Political career Alfonsi has been a Corsican nationalist since the 1970s, and was elected in 1987 to the Corsican Assembly. He was Mayor of Osani from 2002 until 2020. He is currently a member of Femu a Corsica, after having been a member of the Party of the Corsican Nation (PNC). In the 2009 European elections, Alfonsi was the second candidate on the Europe Écologie list in the South-East region, and was elected to the European Parliament. He was the second Corsican nationalist after Max Simeoni (Green, 1989–1994) to be elected to the European Parliament. EU–UK Trade And Cooperation Agreement
The EU–UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) is a free trade agreement signed on 30 December 2020, between the European Union (EU), the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom), and the United Kingdom (UK). It provisionally applied from 1 January 2021, when the Brexit transition period ended, before formally entering into force on 1 May 2021, after the ratification processes on both sides were completed: the UK Parliament ratified on 30 December 2020; the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union ratified in late April 2021. Max Simeoni
Max Simeoni (28 August 1929 – 9 September 2023) was a French Corsican physician and politician. He was a member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1989 to 1994. Life and career Simeoni was elected to the European Parliament in 1989 as a candidate of the autonomist Union of the Corsican People on the list of the French Greens led by Antoine Waechter. His parliamentary assistant was François Alfonsi, who himself became an MEP in 2009. Like Djida Tazdaït, the other non-Green MEP elected on the list, he refused to abide by the Greens ''tourniquet'' rule by which every elected official had to resign at mid-term to prevent the political professionalization. At the next European elections in 1994 he led an autonomist list, Régions et peuples solidaires, which failed to attain the 5% electoral threshold. The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. Europe Ecology (french: Europe Écologie) was a green electoral coalition of political parties in France created for the 2009 European elections composed of The Greens and other ecologists and regionalists. For the European Parliament election in 2014, this electoral alliance was renewed. The coalition was launched on 20 October 2008 with the support of the European Green Party and Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a Franco-German MEP previously representing the Alliance '90/The Greens of Germany, but who ran in France in 2009.
