François-Edmond Pâris
François-Edmond Pâris (6 March 1806 in Paris – 8 April 1893 in Paris) was a French admiral, notable for his contribution to naval engineering during the rise of the steam, for his books, and for his role in organising the Musée national de la Marine. Career Pâris joined the Navy in 1820, and studied at the Naval Academy in Brest. Promoted to ensign in 1826, he served under Jules Dumont d'Urville, Dumont d'Urville and took part in the famous circumnavigation of the corvette French ship Astrolabe (1811), ''Astrolabe'' until 1829; on her quest to find traces of the ill fated expedition of La ''Pérousse'' which vanished in 1788. He then took part in another scientific expedition around the world, aboard the French frigate Favorite (1829), ''Favorite'', under Cyrille Pierre Théodore Laplace until 1832. Alphonse Liébert
Alphonse Justin Liébert (30 November 1826, Tournai - 18 June 1913, Paris) was a French photographer. Biography Initially devoted to a career in the French Navy, Navy, he was wounded at the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado (1845), in Argentina. He had always been interested in photography, so he took it as an opportunity to embark on a new career. Around 1853, probably attracted by the California Gold Rush, Gold Rush, he had established himself as a photographer in California. He returned to France in 1863 and set up a studio in Paris. Between then and 1906, he would relocate his studio at least four times. In 1866, he married Marie-Louise Peuple, a trader in silks. They had three children; Marie-Louise, apparently born out of wedlock, Gaston Ernest Liébert, Gaston Ernest, a career diplomat, and Georges Auguste (1876-1947), who also became a photographer.
