Franz Lefler
Franz Lefler (1831, Langenbruck (now Dlouhý Most), Bohemia – 19 June 1898, Weissenbach an der Triesting) was an Austrian painter. Life After his studies at the Academies of Fine Arts in Vienna and Prague, he settled in Vienna in 1858. He mainly painted allegories, portraits of children, genre and history paintings, ceiling and wall murals, and theater curtains. He spent his summers in Weißenbach an der Triesting with his friend Camillo Walzel, Director of the Theater an der Wien, where he painted murals and frescoes on the walls of the local hotels and villas. Many of his paintings show an attempt to combine the influences of Ancient Egyptian Art and Makartstil. He was especially interested in the subject of children in pictorial representation, and often painted socially critical themes. Heinrich Lefler
Heinrich Lefler (7 November 1863, in Vienna – 14 March 1919, in Vienna) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist and stage designer. His father was the painter Franz Lefler. Life and work From 1880 to 1884, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Christian Griepenkerl and, from 1884, at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich under Nikolaus Gysis and Wilhelm von Diez. In 1891, he became a member of the Society of Austrian Artists and, in 1900, was a founding member of the Hagenbund. From 1900 to 1903, he was an assistant to Anton Brioschi, the head designer at the Vienna State Opera, following which he became a professor at the Academy until 1910. While at the Vienna Opera, he designed a set for the Metropolitan Opera and shipped the pieces to New York. Hans Makart (28 May 1840 – 3 October 1884) was a 19th-century Austrian academic history painter, designer, and decorator. Makart was a prolific painter whose ideas significantly influenced the development of visual art in Austria-Hungary, Germany, and beyond. Life Makart was the son of a chamberlain at the Mirabell Palace, born in the former residence of the prince-archbishops of Salzburg, the city in which Mozart had been born. Initially, he received his training in painting at the Vienna Academy between 1850 and 1851 from Johann Fischbach. Ancient Egyptian art refers to art produced in ancient Egypt between the 6th millennium BC and the 4th century AD, spanning from Prehistoric Egypt until the Christianization of Roman Egypt. It includes paintings, sculptures, drawings on papyrus, faience, jewelry, ivories, architecture, and other art media. It is also very conservative: the art style changed very little over time. Much of the surviving art comes from tombs and monuments, giving more insight into the ancient Egyptian afterlife beliefs. The ancient Egyptian language had no word for "art". Artworks served an essentially functional purpose that was bound with religion and ideology. To render a subject in art was to give it permanence. Therefore, ancient Egyptian art portrayed an idealized, unrealistic view of the world.
