Franz Hoffmeister
Franz Hoffmeister (22 March 1898 – 27 March 1943) was a German Roman Catholic priest and the founder of the Sauerländer Heimatbund and Festspiele Balver Höhle. Life Hoffmeister was born in Ramsbeck. The Sauerländer Heimatbund (English: Sauerland Home Federation) Heimat is a German word that has no simple English translation. It is often expressed with terms such as home or homeland, but these English counterparts fail to encapsulate centuries of German consciousness and the thousands of connections this quintessential aspect of German identity carries with it. is a non-profit NGO in Germany. Their purpose is to adhere to and honour the cultural roots, heritage and traditions the Sauerland area. It was founded in 1921 in Meschede. Festspiele Balver Höhle
Festspiele Balver Höhle is an arts festival, featuring musical and theatrical performances, in Balve, Germany. The festival is centered on the cave of Balve (''Balver Höhle'' in German). The association was founded in 1985 in Volkringhausen and based on an idea by Franz Hoffmeister and Theodor Pröpper. Activities A valuable part of Festspiele Balver höhle is the festival. Balver Märchenwochen The most successful adaption was Pippi in Taka-Tuka-Land in the year 2001. In 2009 they did a piece called "Der kleine Muck". Justus Frantz The German musical director and pianist Justus Frantz was invited by the Festspiele Balver Höhle from 1995 to 2007 each year. In the early years it was a cooperation with the Kreishandwerkerschaft Märkischer Kreis. He conducted a soulful version of Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony with the Philharmonie der Nationen. Bestwig is a municipality in the Hochsauerland district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography Bestwig is situated on the river Ruhr, approx. 10 km east of Meschede. Theodor Pröpper
Theodor Pröpper (26 May 1896 – 31 July 1979) was a German church organist and composer. Pröpper was born in Balve and spent most of his career there as an organist at Saint Blasius church. Career Pröpper studied at the church music school in Paderborn from 1912 to 1914, after which he became organist at the St. Blaise parish church in Balve. He later studied at the State Academy of Music in Munich (with Joseph Haas among his teachers) and also had private composition lessons from Gottfried Rüdinger, returning to Balve in 1925. From 1930 to 1934 he held a position in the local government but was removed by the Nazis. In February 1946 he became deputy mayor of Balve. Pröpper received a number of church honours and appointments throughout his career. In 1966 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit (first class) and in 1974, the Orlando di Lasso medal.
