Franta Sauer
František "Franta" Sauer (4 December 1882 – 26 March 1947) was a Czech writer and close friend of fellow writer Jaroslav Hašek. Early life Franta Sauer was the seventh of eight children born to Barbora Sauerová (née Hájková) and Jan Sauer in Prague. Even though Sauer's parents were illiterate and poor, Sauer was an avid reader throughout his childhood. His father worked as a yardmaster on the railway and as a street hot dog vendor before he got injured and had to stop work. His mother worked as a maid. After struggling in a traditional school, Sauer enrolled in a vocational school to become a locksmith. After completing his training, he returned to the District of Prague Žižkov, where he lived with his mother and sister. Politics For a short period of time, Sauer was a member of the Social Democratic Party and was eventually imprisoned for his left-wing views. ''Empire Conrad'' was a cargo ship that was built in 1942 by Charles Connell & Co Ltd, Clydebank for the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT). She was sold to a French company in 1952 and renamed ''Franta'' and then resold later that year and renamed ''Nia''. In 1954, she was sold to a Panamanian company and renamed ''Eugenia''. She served until 1967, when she was scrapped. Description The ship was built by Lithgow's Ltd, Port Glasgow, as yard number 963. She was launched on 23 March 1942, and completed in May. The ship was long, with a beam of . The ship had a depth of and a draught of . The ship had a GRT of 7,009 and a NRT of 4,972. Václav Renč
Václav Renč (28 November 1911, Straškov-Vodochody, Vodochody – 30 April 1973, Brno) was a Czech poet, dramatist and translator. Like other Catholic ruralistic writers, his themes included God, traditions and the countryside. Life Renč was born in Straškov-Vodochody, Vodochody. He graduated from the College of Philosophy of Charles University in Prague in 1936. He edited the journal ''Rozhledy po literatuře'' (i.e. "Views over literature") together with František Halas (between 1933 and 1936). Then he worked as an editor at several journals (''Akord'', ''Obnova'' and ''Řád''), later as a publishing editor. He was also a dramaturgy, dramaturgist in Olomouc theatre (1945–1948) and in Zemské divadlo theatre in Brno in 1947.
