Franso Hariri Stadium
Franso Hariri Stadium ( Kurdish: یاریگای فرانسۆ ھەریری, Yarîgay Franso Herîrî; Arabic: ملعب فرانسوا حريري) is a multi-purpose stadium in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. It is currently used mostly for football matches by Erbil SC who plays in the Iraqi Premier League. The stadium also has facilities for athletics. The stadium has a capacity of 25,000. It was built on an old airfield in 1956 and was redeveloped in 1992. The stadium was home to the old Brusk club (renamed Al-Shurta Erbil) and was named ''Erbil Stadium'' until 2001. It was renamed the Martyr Franso Hariri Stadium in honor of the assassinated Christian governor Franso Hariri, who supported efforts to renovate the stadium. 2021 Visit By Pope Francis To Iraq
Pope Francis's visit to Iraq took place between 5 March and 8 March 2021. The visit was accorded on following an invitation of the Government of Iraq and the local Catholic Church. The visit was remembered as an attempt to mend bridges between the different faiths in Iraq. During this first ever journey to Iraq by a Pontifex, Pope Francis visited the cities of Ur, Baghdad, Najaf, Qaraqosh, Erbil and Mosul. 2019 WAFF Championship
The 2019 West Asian Football Federation Championship, also called Asiacell WAFF Championship Iraq 2019 due to sponsorship by Asiacell, was the 9th edition of the WAFF Championship, an international tournament for member nations of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF). It was hosted in Iraq for the first time, in the cities of Karbala and Erbil. The tournament was meant to be held from 8 to 17 December 2017 in Amman, Jordan, but was postponed to a later date, and subsequently moved to Iraq on 21 May 2018. It was then expected to be held in November 2018, but yet again postponed to July–August 2019. 2012 AFC Cup Final
The 2012 AFC Cup Final was a football match which was played on 3 November 2012, to determine the champion of the 2012 AFC Cup. It was the final of the 8th edition of the AFC Cup, a competition organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for clubs from "developing countries" in Asia. The final was played between Arbil from Iraq and Al-Kuwait from Kuwait. It was the first continental final to be hosted in Iraq since the first leg of the 1989 Asian Club Championship Final. Ahmed Mnajed Abbas ( ar, أحمد مناجد) (born 13 December 1981) is a former Iraqi footballer. He last played for Sulaymaniya FC in Iraq and the Iraq national football team. He usually played the second striker position. Biography Ahmed Menajed was in the Iraq squad in the 2004 AFC Asian Cup, but he featured in only one game, coming on as a substitute against Turkmenistan.
