Oegstgeest () is a town and municipality in the province of South Holland in the western Netherlands. Its population was in . Etymology The portion ''geest'' in the name refers to the geest lands, which were excavated in the seventeenth century for the benefit of the urban expansion of Leiden. There exists more uncertainty about the 'Oegst' part. There are various stories. The name was formerly often spelled Oestgeest or Oostgeest, which could indicate the geographical location of the village: east of the geest lands. However, the oldest spelling found in a copy of a list of goods of the St. Martin's Cathedral in Utrecht from the tenth century states Osgeresgeest. This could indicate an original resident and owner of the territory: Osger. ''Q & Q'' was a Dutch television series, broadcast by the Katholieke Radio Omroep (KRO) in 1974. With an average audience of three million viewers, the show is one of the highest-viewed programs in the history of Dutch television. The first series of thirteen episodes came to be called ''A failed photograph''. A second series, ''Kunst- en vliegwerk'', also thirteen episodes, was made for the 1976 season; that series was later shortened and released in theaters as a movie. Production and background The series was directed by Bram van Erkel and starred Lex Goudsmit and others. Harrie Geelen wrote the screenplay. Music for the series was written by Joop Stokkermans. Bassie & Adriaan was a television programme series focusing on the adventures and lives of a circus duo consisting of clown Bassie and acrobat Adriaan, played by real-life circus duo Bas and Aad van Toor. Written by Aad van Toor and originally produced by Joop van den Ende, the first series became a television hit in the Netherlands in the spring season of 1978. At its peak, the show attracted over three million viewers, which was noted to be "a lot" for a children's programme. The show ran for nine series, with the last original episode airing in 1996. Between 1980 and 1982, the Van Toor brothers ran their own independent circus, which was named Circus Bassie & Adriaan, which later became a subsidiary of Circus Renz.
