Frans Devooght
Frans Devooght (1939–2008) was a Belgian darts player who competed in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) in the 1980s and 1990s. Devooght won the Dutch Open back to back in 1984 and 1985 and then captured the Swiss Open in 1986. He then played in the 1987 BDO World Darts Championship, beating Avtar Gill 3–1 in the first round before losing to former World Champion Jocky Wilson 3–1 in the second round. Wingene (; vls, Wiengne; historically: Wynghene) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Wingene proper and Zwevezele. Darts or dart-throwing is a competitive sport in which two or more players bare-handedly throw small projectile point, sharp-pointed projectile, missiles known as dart (missile), darts at a round shooting target, target known as a #Dartboard, dartboard. British Darts Organisation
The British Darts Organisation (BDO) was a darts organisation founded on 7 January 1973 by Olly Croft. Made up of 66 member counties, it oversaw professional, semi-professional and amateur darts competitions in Britain. The BDO was a founder member of the World Darts Federation in 1976. It also staged a BDO World Darts Championship, World Professional Darts Championship from 1978 to 2020. In the early 1990s, a dispute between Olly Croft and the top darts players over the decline in TV coverage and sponsorship led to an acrimonious Split in darts, split in the game, with the players breaking away to form their own governing body which became the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Jocky Wilson
John Thomas "Jocky" Wilson (22 March 1950 – 24 March 2012) was a Scottish professional darts player. After turning pro in 1979, he quickly rose to the top of the game, winning the World Professional Darts Championship in 1982, then again in 1989. Wilson competed in all major darts tournaments of the era and won the British Professional Championship a record four times between 1981 and 1988. A contemporary and rival of Eric Bristow, Bob Anderson and John Lowe, Wilson's ungainly appearance and rough-hewn lifestyle belied his prowess in the sport. He was dogged by health problems, however, and suddenly retired from the game in December 1995. He withdrew from public life, and was rarely seen in public or gave interviews before his death in March 2012. The 1992 Embassy World Darts Championship was held from 3–11 January 1992 at the Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, Surrey. With Eric Bristow and defending champion Dennis Priestley both going out in round two, the way was paved for the top two seeds, Phil Taylor and Mike Gregory, to make it to the final – notably, the first final since the inauguration of the World Championship in 1978 that featured neither Bristow nor John Lowe. In a titanic affair, full of big scores and high checkouts, it went to the final set and a tiebreak, where Gregory missed two chances each at double 8, double top and double 10 for the title. It also made Gregory the first player to miss darts at double to win a world championship and eventually lose; none would match this until Mark McGeeney in 2018. Graham Miller is an English former professional darts player who competed in British Darts Organisation (BDO) events in the 1980s and 1990s. Career At the 1992 BDO World Darts Championship, Miller defeated Belgian Frans Devooght 3–1 in the first round and former World Champion Bob Anderson 3–2 in the second en route to the quarter-finals where he was defeated 3–4 by another former World Champion, John Lowe. He also played in the Winmau World Masters the same year, losing to Alan Warriner in the first round. He made another World Championship in 1993 losing in the first round to Raymond van Barneveld. Prior to his World Championship appearances, Miller reached the final of the 1990 Dutch Open, losing to Leo Laurens. He also reached the semi-finals of the 1990 French Open.
