Franklin W. Fort
Franklin William Fort (March 30, 1880 – June 20, 1937) was an American lawyer and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from New Jersey for three terms from 1925 to 1931. He was the son of Governor of New Jersey John Franklin Fort. Early life and education Franklin W. Fort was born on March 30, 1880 in Newark, New Jersey to John Franklin Fort and Charlotte Stainsby. In 1888, he moved with his parents to East Orange, New Jersey. He attended the public schools and Newark Academy and graduated from Lawrenceville School in 1897 and from Princeton University in 1901. He attended New York Law School from 1901 to 1903 and was admitted to the bar in 1903 and commenced practice in Newark. He served as recorder of East Orange, New Jersey, in 1907 and 1908. Harris & Ewing Inc. was a photographic studio in Washington, D.C., owned and run by George W. Harris (photographer), George W. Harris and Martha Ewing. History As a rookie news photographer, Harris covered the Johnstown Flood, Johnstown flood of 1889 in Pennsylvania. He worked at Hearst Corporation, Hearst News Service in San Francisco from 1900 to 1903, then joined President Theodore Roosevelt's press entourage on a train trip. Roosevelt, or a San Francisco newspaper editor, angry at having no photograph of George Frisbie Hoar to run with the story of his death, urged him to open a studio in Washington to photograph notable people there. He took Ewing, an artist and Hand-colouring of photographs, colorist with whom he had worked; she financed the company and managed the studio. The name comes from the website's inclusion of burial locations of the deceased (when known). History The site was created in 1996 by Lawrence Kestenbaum, then an academic specialist at Michigan State University, and later on staff at the University of Michigan. Bloomfield, New Jersey
Bloomfield is a township in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the township's population was 53,105. It surrounds the Bloomfield Green Historic District. History The initial patent for the land that would become Bloomfield Township was granted to the English Puritan colonists of Newark, and the area assigned to Essex County in 1675, and Newark Township in 1693. From the 1690s to about the 1720s, much of the northern and eastern land was sold to descendants of New Netherland colonists who had settled Acquackanonk, and the remainder mostly to English families. Bloomfield Cemetery, designated a New Jersey Historic Site, is located at 383 Belleville Avenue, Bloomfield in Essex County, New Jersey. Bloomfield Cemetery is one of New Jersey’s most significant rural cemeteries, and the only such landscape to be designed by Alexander Jackson Davis, one of America’s most important Victorian architects. Like nearby Mount Pleasant Cemetery (in Newark), it contains the graves of numerous individuals, families and social groups that were important to the history of Essex County and New Jersey as a whole.
