Franklin Stakes
The Franklin Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares that are three years old or older, over a distance of furlongs on the turf held annually in October at Keeneland Race Course, Lexington, Kentucky during the autumn meeting. The event currently carries a purse of $300,000. History The event is named in honor of Franklin County which is adjacent to Keeneland Race Course. The race was inaugurated on 18 October 1997 as the A. P. Indy Stakes in honor of the 1992 American Horse of the Year A.P. Indy. The inaugural event was run in split divisions. In 2003 the event was renamed to the Clark County Stakes, a Kentucky county adjacent to Lexington. In 2005 the event was renamed to the Franklin County Stakes. The 2006 running was moved to the All Weather Track. In 2016 the event was upgraded to a Grade III The name of the event was modified in 2022 to the Franklin Stakes. Keeneland Association, Inc. is an equine business based in Lexington, Kentucky. It includes two distinct divisions: the Keeneland Race Course, a Thoroughbred racing facility, and Keeneland Sales, a horse auction complex. It is also known for its reference library. Joel Rosario
Joel Rosario (born January 14, 1985) is a Champion jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing, originally from the Dominican Republic. In the space of five weeks in 2013 he rode the winners of the Dubai World Cup and the Kentucky Derby. More recently, he rode Knicks Go to wins in the Pegasus World Cup, Whitney Stakes, and Breeders' Cup Classic in 2021. Career On December 11, 2009, Rosario equaled a Hollywood Park Racetrack record when he won six races on a single race card. Jose Lezcano (born April 20, 1985 in Panama) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. He rides in New York in the spring, summer and fall and spends the winter in Florida. His big break came in 2008 when he won a Breeders' Cup race. Career Lezcano attended the Laffit Pincay Jockey School in his native Panama before moving to the U.S. in January 2003 and launching his career at Gulfstream Park where he earned his first win in March 2004 aboard Cloudy Gray. He spent his first season at Monmouth in 2005, finishing fifth in the standings overall. It was founded by Barry Irwin and Jeff Siegel who create partnerships (syndicates) with racing enthusiasts to race Thoroughbred horses at major racing venues, primarily in North America. Sol Kumin (born 13 May 1975) is an American business leader, Thoroughbred racehorse owner and philanthropist. In May 2018, he became the first owner since 1952 to have both a Kentucky Oaks and a Kentucky Derby winner in the same weekend. He was a co-owner of Justify; winner of the Triple Crown.
