Franklin School (Boise, Idaho)
Franklin School was a two-story brick and stucco building in the western United States, located in Boise, Idaho. Designed by Tourtellotte & Hummel and constructed in 1926, the school featured a flat roof with a decorated concrete parapet. Added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1982, With it was demolished in 2009. History In 1876, William B. Morris established an irrigation canal from the Boise River to his property, the Morris Ranch, in an area that became Boise's Central Bench. His nephew, William H. Ridenbaugh, completed the project in 1878, and the ditch became known as the Ridenbaugh Canal. Settlers established farms in the area of the Morris Ranch, later named the Ridenbaugh Ranch, after completion of the canal. In the 1880s, Benjamin Scott purchased the Ridenbaugh Ranch, and he donated land for construction of a one-room school at the corner of Franklin and Orchard Roads. A three-year comprehensive high school, Boise High is located on the outlying edge of the city's downtown business core. The enrollment for the 2014–15 school year was approximately 1,481. The Boise High boundary includes all of Hidden Springs and a section of Garden City. History 1882 to 1930 Before Boise High School, the Treasure Valley was serviced by Central High School. Opened in 1882, it cost $44,000 instead of the originally estimated sum of $25,000. The Boise School District #1 is one of 115 public school districts in Idaho. The Boise School District serves a 456 square mile area of Ada County and is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Wayland & Fennell was an architectural firm in Idaho. Many of their works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Charles W. Wayland (1874-1953) worked as a drafter in the office of Boise architect William S. Campbell for two years, 1900–1902, then became a partner when the firm was reorganized as Campbell & Wayland. The partnership was dissolved in 1904 when Wayland partnered with Fennell. James A. Fennell (1874-1941) worked as a drafter in the office of San Francisco architect Alexander F. Oakey, then in the office of Butte, Montana, architect J.W. White. Fennell later formed Fennell & Cove in partnership with George B. Cove, headquartered in Butte. Franklin, Idaho
Franklin is a city in Franklin County, Idaho, United States. The population was 641 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Logan, Utah-Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The town was founded by Mormon pioneers led by Thomas S. Smart on April 14, 1860, in what was then Washington Territory, although at the time it was believed the settlement was within the bounds of Utah Territory. The town was named for Franklin Richards, an Apostle for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Franklin is the first permanent European settlement in present-day Idaho. Its political status remained ambiguous until an 1872 survey determined the townsite was in Idaho Territory about north of the Utah Territory border.
