Franklin House (San Diego, California)
Franklin House of San Diego, California was a historic hotel. It was built by Selim Franklin and his brother at 203-205 Sansome in 1852. The Annals of San Francisco (1855) lists the Franklin House as one of five more upscale hotels in the city. Permanent residents included physicians, attorneys and a judge. Cousins Lewis and Maurice Franklin relocated to San Diego and built the Franklin House there in 1855, the first three-story building in Southern California. Franklin Apartments
Franklin Apartments, also known as the Rood House, Antes House, and the Coffin Apartments, is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The building was constructed as a single-family dwelling for the Rood family in 1896. with It was converted into a seven unit apartment building in 1914, and then substantially remodeled four years later by Frank B. Coffin into a three unit apartment building. The building is located on Sixth Avenue, which by the turn of the 20th century had become a major route utilized by vehicular traffic and streetcar lines. Its proximity to this transportation corridor illustrates the emergence of higher and denser residential use in this area of Des Moines. Franklin House in Franklin Village, near Launceston, Tasmania, is a historic house that is preserved by Tasmania's National Trust and is open to the public. Built in 1838 for Britton Jones, it later became a school for boys. History It is a Georgian style house that was built in 1838 for former convict Britton Jones, a Launceston brewer and innkeeper. It was later a school for boys, between 1842 and 1866 when leased to schoolmaster William Keeler Hawkes. The house and gardens are located in Youngtown, Tasmania, and are available for public tours. In 1960 Franklin house was the first heritage property taken over by the National Trust in Tasmania. Franklin House (Athens, Georgia)
The Franklin House is a three-story brick historic building located at 464-480 East Broad Street, in Athens, Georgia. It was built in three phases between 1845 and 1860. Originally a mercantile building with an antebellum hotel on the upper floors, from 1865 to 1972 it was a hardware store. In the 1970s it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in the 1980s it was restored and turned into office space and apartments. Description The structure's architecture displays elements of both Federal and Greek Revival styles. It has a gable roof. Second floor doors on the left side of the building originally opened to a balcony and stair leading to the street. In 1886, a cast-iron front was installed for the first floor. Early history The lot for the building was owned by the University of Georgia and was acquired at auction by William L. Mitchell.
