Frankfurt Adaptive Concentration Test
The Frankfurt Adaptive Concentration Test (FACT-2) is a computer-based testing method for determining the individual concentration capacity by means of discrimination tasks. The proband has to discriminate continually between geometric target and nontarget items as accurately and quickly as possible. Both, target items as well as non-target items require a specific reaction button. Thus a directed attention is required for all items. The first edition of the test was introduced in 1997 by Moosbrugger and Heyden, the second edition 2005 by Moosbrugger and Goldhammer, each at Goethe University Frankfurt Goethe University (german: link=no, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main) is a university located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Computer-based Testing
Electronic assessment, also known as digital assessment, e-assessment, online assessment or computer-based assessment, is the use of information technology in assessment such as educational assessment, health assessment, psychiatric assessment, and psychological assessment. This covers a wide range of activities ranging from the use of a word processor for assignments to on-screen testing. Specific types of e-assessment include multiple choice, online/electronic submission, computerized adaptive testing such as the Frankfurt Adaptive Concentration Test, and computerized classification testing. Different types of online assessments contain elements of one or more of the following components, depending on the assessment's purpose: formative, summative and diagnostic. Instant and detailed feedback may (or may not) be enabled. In formative assessment, often defined as 'assessment for learning', digital tools are increasingly being adopted by schools, higher education institutions an ...

Attentional Control
Attentional control, colloquially referred to as concentration, refers to an individual's capacity to choose what they pay attention to and what they ignore. It is also known as endogenous attention or executive attention. In lay terms, attentional control can be described as an individual's ability to concentrate. Primarily mediated by the frontal areas of the brain including the anterior cingulate cortex, attentional control is thought to be closely related to other executive functions such as working memory. General overview of research Sources of attention in our brain create a system of three networks: alertness (maintaining awareness), orientation (information from sensory input), and executive control (resolving conflict). These three networks have been studied using experimental designs involving adults, children, and monkeys, with and without abnormalities of attention. Research designs include the Stroop task and flanker task, which study executive control with analy ...

Discrimination (information)
Discrimination in the original and broadest sense is the ability to distinguish one thing from another. Business and engineering * Discrimination testing is a technique employed in sensory analysis to determine whether there is a detectable difference among two or more products. * Markovian discrimination is a method used in spam filters to model the statistical behaviors of spam and nonspam. * Net bias (also called data discrimination) is the differentiation of price or quality of Internet data transmission. * Price discrimination, or price differentiation, is a pricing strategy where identical or similar goods or services are sold at different prices by the same provider to different customers. * Selectivity (circuit breakers) (also known as ''circuit breaker discrimination'') is the coordination of overcurrent protection devices so that a fault in the installation is cleared by the protection device located immediately upstream of the fault. * Term discrimination is a way to ...

Attention
Attention is the behavioral and cognitive process of selectively concentrating on a discrete aspect of information, whether considered subjective or objective, while ignoring other perceivable information. William James (1890) wrote that "Attention is the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seem several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought. Focalization, concentration, of consciousness are of its essence." Attention has also been described as the allocation of limited cognitive processing resources. Attention is manifested by an attentional bottleneck, in terms of the amount of data the brain can process each second; for example, in human vision, only less than 1% of the visual input data (at around one megabyte per second) can enter the bottleneck, leading to inattentional blindness. Attention remains a crucial area of investigation within education, psychology, neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, and neuropsychology. ...
