Frank Severino
Frank Severino (born Frank J. Severino June 2, 1936 – October 5, 1987) was an American jazz drummer. He played with Warne Marsh during 1975. In the 1970s he was also part of guitarist Joe Pass's trio. He was based in Los Angeles at this time; critic Ted Panken described him and Donald Bailey (musician), Donald Bailey as "first-call drummers" of the area. Severino appeared on Clark Terry's ''Memories of Duke'' album. Taking after his father, Severino and Shelly Manne invented a drum with quick changeable batter heads. ''Live at Donte's'' (or ''The Joe Pass Trio Live at Donte's'') is a live album by American jazz guitarist Joe Pass recorded in 1974 but first released in 1981 on Pablo Records as a double album. After spending over ten years playing in relative obscurity, Pass released the critically acclaimed solo-guitar ''Virtuoso'' and also played on two Ella Fitzgerald albums. Irene Kral
Irene Kral (January 18, 1932 – August 15, 1978) was an American jazz singer who was born to Czechoslovakian parents in Chicago, Illinois and settled in Los Angeles in the early 1960s. She died from breast cancer in Encino, California. Kral's older brother, Roy Kral, was developing his own career as a musician when she began to sing professionally as a teenager. She sang with bands on tours led by Woody Herman and Chubby Jackson, the Herman's bass player. She joined Maynard Ferguson's band in the late 1950s and sang with groups led by Stan Kenton, Terry Gibbs, and Shelly Manne. She had a solo career until her death at 46 years of age. She was a ballad singer who said Carmen McRae was one of her inspirations. She became better known posthumously when Clint Eastwood used her recordings in his 1995 movie ''The Bridges of Madison County''. Monty Alexander
Montgomery Bernard "Monty" Alexander (born 6 June 1944) is a Jamaican jazz pianist. His playing has a Caribbean influence and bright swinging feeling, with a strong vocabulary of bebop jazz and blues rooted melodies. He was influenced by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Erroll Garner, Nat King Cole, Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Les McCann, and Frank Sinatra. Alexander also sings and plays the melodica. He is known for his surprising musical twists, bright rhythmic sense, and intense dramatic musical climaxes. Monty's recording career has covered many of the well-known American songbook standards, jazz standards, pop hits, and Jamaican songs from his original homeland. Johnny O'Neal
Johnny O'Neal (born October 10, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American neo-bop jazz pianist and vocalist. His playing ranges from the technically virtuosic to the tenderest of ballad interpretations. Though unique in style, he is influenced by many jazz elders, including Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. He has led many recording dates with musicians such as Russell Malone and many others. He was a 1997 inductee of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame. Life and career In 1974, O'Neal moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where he worked as a full-time musician.
