Frank Robson (conservationist)
Frank Donald Robson (29 September 1912 – 30 May 1993) was a New Zealand logging contractor, fisherman and marine conservationist. Robson was born in Greenmeadows, New Zealand, in 1912. He was the first New Zealander to study whale strandings and the first systematic investigation of pollutant levels in marine mammals in New Zealand. His volunteer group, Project Jonah has saved thousands of marine mammals, continuing even after the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978 made the Department of Conservation technically responsible for this. Marine Conservationist
Marine conservation, also known as ocean conservation, is the protection and preservation of ecosystems in oceans and seas through planned management in order to prevent the over-exploitation of these marine resources. Marine conservation is informed by the study of marine plants and animal resources and ecosystem functions and is driven by response to the manifested negative effects seen in the environment such as species loss, habitat degradation and changes in ecosystem functions and focuses on limiting human-caused damage to marine ecosystems, restoring damaged marine ecosystems, and preserving vulnerable species and ecosystems of the marine life. Taradale, New Zealand
Taradale is a suburb of the City of Napier, in the Hawke's Bay Region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is a predominantly middle-upper class residential suburb, located 10 kilometres southwest of the centre of Napier. The Taradale ward, which includes Greenmeadows, Meeanee, and Poraiti, had a population of 22,809 in the 2018 New Zealand census. For hundreds of years, hills overlooking what is now Taradale were the site of villages occupied by Māori people, latterly of the Ngāti Kahungunu tribe. Europeans started settling at Taradale in the 1850s, and it was officially recognised as a town in 1886. It was a town district from 1886 to 1953, and a borough from 1953 to 1968, when it merged with Napier City. Whale Strandings
Cetacean stranding, commonly known as beaching, is a phenomenon in which whales and dolphins strand themselves on land, usually on a beach. Beached whales often die due to dehydration, collapsing under their own weight, or drowning when high tide covers the blowhole (anatomy), blowhole. Cetacean stranding has occurred since before recorded history. Several explanations for why cetaceans strand themselves have been proposed, including changes in water temperatures, peculiarities of whales' Animal echolocation, echolocation in certain surroundings, and geomagnetic disturbances, but none have so far been universally accepted as a definitive reason for the behavior. Systematic Investigation

Project Jonah
Project Jonah is an environmental organisation that was established in 1974 in New Zealand. It specialises in the protection and conservation of marine mammals (whales, dolphins and seals). The key areas in which they work is rescuing stranded marine mammals, advocacy for marine mammals, ensuring compliance with legislation. They are regularly involved in rescuing stranded whales around New Zealand. New Zealand has one of the highest rates of whale strandings with the beached whales, and marine mammals in general, being the responsibility of the Department of Conservation.
