Frank Phillips (cricketer)
Francis Ashley Phillips (11 April 1873 – 5 March 1955) was a Welsh cricketer who played 108 first-class cricket matches in his career between 1892 and 1919. He was educated at Rossall School and Exeter College, Oxford. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, who occasionally kept wicket, Phillips scored 4,310 first-class runs. He played the majority of his career for Somerset, but also represented the county of his birth, Monmouthshire Monmouthshire ( cy, Sir Fynwy) is a county in the south-east of Wales. Frank Phillips (May 2, 1862 – September 16, 1926) was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Early life Frank Phillips was born on May 2, 1862, in Independence, Missouri. He attended public schools there. Career At the age of eighteen, Phillips became a conductor for the street railway company. In 1888, Phillips was made the supervisor of the Tenth Street and Brooklyn Avenue line. Phillips was a Democrat. Phillips was elected to the Kansas City, Missouri City Council for two terms. He then served as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives. Personal life Phillips married and had one child, Robert F. (or Frank F), sources differ. Frank Freeman Phillips (November 28, 1873 – August 23, 1950) was an American oilman who with his brother Lee Eldas Phillips co-founded the Phillips Petroleum Company in 1917. Phillips served as the company's president from 1917 to 1939 and as its chairman from 1939 to 1949. Early life and education Frank Phillips was born on November 28, 1873, in Scotia, Nebraska where his parents Lucinda and Lewis Franklin Phillips, the county's first magistrate, had a farm; the family moved in 1874 to a small farm in rural southwest Iowa. Frank had ten siblings, including two brothers with whom he later went into business. One notable family member is his younger brother Waite, who founded the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, a destination for thousands of Boy Scouts to backpack the mountains. A few years later, the Phillips boy began his first occupational endeavor, hiring himself out to area farmers to dig potatoes for 10 cents a day (after completing his chores at home). Frank Stafford Phillips (24 July 1932 – 2 May 2023) was an Australian professional golfer. He was rated one of the best ball strikers of his era winning the 1957 and 1961 Australian Opens. He was a Life Member of the PGA of Australia from 2002. Phillips was born in Moss Vale, New South Wales on 24 July 1932. In Jack Pollard's book, ''Australian Golf: The Game and the Players'', Phillips is described as "a tall Sydney professional who built an outstanding record in Australian golf in the 1950s and 1960s". Phillips was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours for service to golf. Phillips died at a nursing home in Bowral on 2 May 2023, at the age of 90.
