Frank O. Hellstrom
Frank O. Hellstrom (June 24, 1866 – 1931) was the Democratic contender for Governor of North Dakota in 1912 and 1914 but was defeated by the Republican candidate, L. B. Hanna, both times. He was warden of the North Dakota State Penitentiary at Bismarck, North Dakota. Biography He was born near Lone Star in Douglas County, Kansas to parents of Swedish descent. He married Sarah Elizabeth Markley (1871-1979). He was appointed as postmaster of Grove in Burleigh County, North Dakota on May 7, 1908. He was warden of the North Dakota State Penitentiary at Bismarck, North Dakota in 1913 when he was the Democratic contender for Governor of North Dakota, but was defeated by the Republican candidate, Louis Benjamin Hanna.1930 United States Federal Census. Lone Star, Kansas
Lone Star is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Kansas, United States. It is located southwest of Lawrence. History The first settlers arrived in 1854, many of whom were either southern colonists or sympathizers who wanted slavery to be legal in the Kansas Territory. However, by 1860, many of these individuals had returned to the south or given up the cause. When William Quantrill razed Lawrence in 1863, some of his men traveled down south and passed near Lone Star. The settlement was initially known as "Bond"which was the name of its first postmaster. The post office was open from 1875 until 1953. According to the ''Lawrence Journal-World'' Lone Star was named as such after a group of settlers saw a star in the sky while trying to think of a suitable name for their community's school. John Burke (North Dakota Politician)
John Burke (February 25, 1859 – May 14, 1937) was an American lawyer, jurist, and political leader from North Dakota who served as the 10th governor of North Dakota from 1907 to 1913, and later served as the 24th treasurer of the United States under President Woodrow Wilson. Following his term as treasurer, he subsequently served intermittently as Chief Justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court first from 1929-1931, then from 1935 until his death in 1937. Early life Burke was born in Sigourney, Iowa of Irish ancestry to John and Mary (née Ryan) Burke. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1886 with a law degree. He married Mary E. Kane, a teacher, on August 22, 1891, and they later had three children. Louis Benjamin Hanna (August 9, 1861 – April 23, 1948) was an American businessman, banker, and North Dakota Republican Party politician, who served in the North Dakota House of Representatives and as the 11th Governor of North Dakota. Biography Louis Benjamin Hanna was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. His parents, Jason R. and Margaret Hanna died when he was a small boy, leaving him to be raised by his aunts. Louis Hanna grew up and received his education in Massachusetts and New York. He came to the Dakota Territory in 1881 with his brother, Robert C. Hanna and began farming near what is now Hope, North Dakota. He was married on November 18, 1888, to Lottie L. Thatcher (1864-1933) and they had four children.
