Frank Newton (12 November 1902 - 1977), nicknamed 'Bonzo', was an English football striker who played for Stockport County and Fulham As one of 19 children, he joined the army upon leaving home, serving in India. He was a versatile sportsman, excelling in boxing, football, hockey and rugby. A keen explorer, he sailed in a cargo boat. He served in the Calcutta Police as a sergeant and also as an engineer on the East India Railway. A prolific goalscorer, he scored 93 goals in 101 appearances for Stockport County, before joining Fulham. In 1931/32 he was the top scorer in the Third Division North when he set Fulham's seasonal goalscoring record of 43. This was eventually emulated by Aleksandar Mitrovic Alexander is a male given name. Stockport County Football Club are a professional association football, football club in Stockport, England, who compete in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. Formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, they were renamed Stockport County in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport. The team have played in blue and white Kit (association football), kits since 1914; their original colours were red and white. The club are nicknamed "The Hatters" after the town's former hat-making industry. Stockport have played at Edgeley Park since 1902. Third Division North
The Third Division North of the Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division South with clubs elected to the League or relegated from a higher division allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division North and the Third Division South according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. The Third Division South had been created in 1921 from the Third Division formed the previous year made up of 22 teams drawn mostly from the Southern League. It was decided that this gave the Football League overall too much of a southern bias, so the Third Division North was created in 1921–22 to redress the balance.
