Frank McKinnon Scholarship
The Frank McKinnon Scholarship is bursary awarded by the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in honour of former Commissioner Frank McKinnon. It provides an opportunity for players to apply for a scholarship based on their academic and hockey accomplishments. Frank McKinnon, , (June 16, 1934–May 31, 2015) served 18 years as a member (five years as President) of the Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association (now Hockey Manitoba) and five year as a member (three years as Chairman) of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. He was a Vice-President and Director of the Sports Federation of Canada, a Vice-President of the Canadian Olympic Association, a Congress member of the International Ice Hockey Federation and a Trustee of the Centennial Cup. Manitoba Junior Hockey League
The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is a Junior 'A' ice hockey league operating in the Canadian province of Manitoba and one of nine member leagues of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The MJHL consists of thirteen teams all based within the province of Manitoba, eight of which qualify for each year's playoffs. The playoff champion is awarded the Turnbull Cup, the Junior 'A' championship trophy for the province of Manitoba. The winner of the MJHL playoffs (Turnbull Cup) competes against the champion from Saskatchewan for the ANAVET Cup and a berth in the Centennial Cup (formerly known as the Royal Bank Cup). Winkler Flyers
The Winkler Flyers are a Manitoba Junior Hockey League team playing out of the Winkler Arena in Winkler, Manitoba, Canada. The Flyers entered the MJHL as an expansion team for the 1980-81 season and have won three Turnbull Cup Championships as Manitoba Junior 'A' Champions (1991, 1992, & 1998) as well as the ANAVET Cup in 1992. Marlin Froese
Marlins are fish from the family Istiophoridae, which includes about 10 species. A marlin has an elongated body, a spear-like snout or bill, and a long, rigid dorsal fin which extends forward to form a crest. Its common name is thought to derive from its resemblance to a sailor's marlinspike. Marlins are among the fastest marine swimmers. However, greatly exaggerated speeds are often claimed in popular literature, based on unreliable or outdated reports. The larger species include the Atlantic blue marlin, ''Makaira nigricans'', which can reach in length and in weight and the black marlin, ''Istiompax indica'', which can reach in excess of in length and in weight. Winnipeg Saints
The Winnipeg Saints were a Manitoba Junior Hockey League team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The team was known for most of its existence as the St. Boniface Saints and exists today as the Virden Oil Capitals. History The St. Boniface Saints were formed in 1967 when the Winnipeg Rangers were purchased by a local group and relocated to St. Boniface. The Saints won three Turnbull Cups as Manitoba Junior 'A' champions (1971, 1981, and 1994), and the Anavet Cup in 1971. The team became the Winnipeg Saints in 2000 after moving to the Dakota Community Centre in St. Vital, which would be their home until the end of the 2009-2010 season. They played one season out of St. Adolphe arena and then returned to Winnipeg, playing out of the St. James Civic Centre for the 2011-2012 season. Robin Allison
Robin Allison is a New Zealand architect and the designer of a co-housing community in west Auckland. The community is New Zealand's first purpose-built co-housing development. Biography Allison grew up in Bucklands Beach, Auckland. In 1973, she moved to Dunedin to study medicine at the University of Otago. She soon changed to study anthropology and psychology and then left university the following year. After some years working and travelling overseas, she moved back to Auckland and enrolled in architecture at the University of Auckland, starting her course in 1980. Winnipeg South Blues
The Winnipeg Blues are a Manitoba Junior Hockey League team based in Oak Bluff, a suburban area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The team was founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Monarchs and also formerly known as the Fort Garry Blues (1978-1984) and Winnipeg South Blues (1984-2010). The Blues/Monarchs hockey club has won 17 Turnbull Cups as MJHL champions, two ANAVET Cups, and six Abbott Cups. The Monarchs were also three-time Memorial Cup champions before the reorganization of Canadian junior hockey in 1970. Frank McKinnon
Frank Lorne McKinnon, (June 16, 1934 – May 31, 2015) was a Canadian sports administrator. He was a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Congress, chairman of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA), and vice-president of the Canadian Olympic Association for one term. McKinnon was named a Member of the Order of Canada in June 2014 in recognition of his extensive volunteer work and contributions to amateur sport in Canada. Career A teacher by trade, McKinnon received his post-secordary education at Brandon University, where he also starred on the Brandon Bobcats, school's hockey team. He became the Head teacher, principal of the high school in Carman, Manitoba in 1964 and later helped create the Manitoba High School Athletics Association, the governing body for high school athletics in the province.
