Frank Lanning
Frank Lanning (August 14, 1872 – June 17, 1945) was an American actor of the silent era. He appeared in 84 films between 1910 and 1934. He was born in Marion, Iowa and died in Los Angeles, California. Lanning's film debut came in ''The Mended Lute''. He acted for Biograph, Kalem, Universal and Pathe studios. Witch Doctor
A witch doctor (also spelled witch-doctor) was originally a type of Folk healer, healer who treated ailments believed to be caused by witchcraft. The term is now more commonly used to refer to Alternative medicine, healers, particularly in regions which use traditional medicine, traditional healing rather than evidence-based medicine, contemporary medicine. Original meaning of the term In its original meaning, witch doctors were not exactly witches themselves, but rather people who had remedies to protect others against witchcraft. ''Drifting'' is a 1923 American silent drama film based on the Broadway play ''Drifting'', by John Colton and Daisy H. Andrews. The play had starred Robert Warwick and Alice Brady. The film was directed by Tod Browning and features Priscilla Dean, Wallace Beery, and Anna May Wong. It was produced and distributed by Universal Pictures. Plot Cassie Cook had played the opium selling game until fate and a bad shuffle compelled her to team up with her biggest rival, Jules Repin, and then the horror of the whole thing weighed down upon her and she determined to quit and leave China before it was too late. ''Step on It!'' is a lost 1922 American silent Western film directed by Jack Conway and featuring Hoot Gibson, released by Universal Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine, Vic Collins (Gibson) is continually losing cattle, but is unable to trace them beyond a stream that skirts his ranch. Lafe Brownell (Girard), an officer from Texas sent to trace cattle thieves, tells Vic that the new telegraph operator Lorraine Leighton (Bedford), whom Vic has become interested in, is at the bottom of the thefts. Vic follows her to a nearby ranch and finds the bed of the stream dry, because the water has been shutoff at a sluice way. Thus, his cattle had been driven across the dry stream and then the water turned on again. Vic is captured by the thieves and threatened with death, but Lorraine rides back to his ranch for help. ''Daredevil Jack'' is a 1920 American silent 15-chapter action film serial directed by W. S. Van Dyke and starring heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey and featuring Lon Chaney as a villain. The chapters were shown weekly between February and May 1920. The serial's working titles were ''Daredevil Durant'' or ''Dead or Alive''. An incomplete copy of the film is housed in the UCLA Film and Television Archive. The supporting cast features Lon Chaney, Edgar Kennedy, John George and Bull Montana. This was the first of 23 films, many of them short subjects, in which the iconic boxer Dempsey appeared, usually as the top-billed leading man.
