Frank Granger Quigley
Francis Granger Quigley, (10 July 1894 – 20 October 1918) was a Canadian aviator and flying ace of the First World War, who was credited with 33 aerial victories. He was notable for scoring the majority of his victories against German fighter planes. Early life and service Quigley was born in Toronto, Canada, on 10 July 1894, the youngest son of Robert John Quigley and Anne Jane Primrose. He attended St. Andrew's College in Aurora, Ontario, and was attending his second year at Queen's University in Kingston when the First World War broke out. He excelled at the sports of football and hockey. First World War Quigley enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 16 December 1914, and served with the 5th Field Company of the Canadian Army Engineers on the Western Front. Lieutenant Alfred Michael Koch MC was a Swiss-born Canadian flying ace credited with ten aerial victories. Early life Alfred Michael Koch was born on 25 February 1894 in Arosa, Graubünden, Switzerland. He moved to Canada at the age of four years. His father was John Koch. The younger Koch enlisted in the 19th Alberta Dragoons on 23 September 1914 at Valcartier, Canada, and was assigned regimental number 2077. He listed a home address in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, his profession as law student, and claimed prior military experience. His physical examination reported him as 5 feet 3 1/2 inches tall. He reportedly was dark-complected, with dark brown hair, grey eyes, and moles on his right arm. World War I Koch was originally a trumpeter for the Alberta Dragoons. Frank Harold Hobson, MC (8 October 1894 – 1951) was a British flying ace of the First World War, credited with 15 aerial victories. Biography Hobson was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, on 8 October 1894. He originally served in the Royal Engineers, but transferred to the Royal Flying Corps, being commissioned a temporary second lieutenant (on probation) on 10 May 1917. In September 1917, he scored his first victory while he was assigned to No. 65 Squadron RFC.Franks (2003), p. 64. Flying Sopwith Camel No. B2305, he drove down an Albatros D.V out of control. John Todd (aviator)
Captain John Todd (1899–1980) was a Scottish First World War flying ace credited with 18 aerial victories. Military service Todd was a medical student at the University of Edinburgh before he joined the Royal Flying Corps as a cadet. He was commissioned as a temporary second lieutenant (on probation) on the General List on 2 August 1917, and was confirmed in his rank on 3 November. He was posted to No. 70 Squadron RFC to fly the Sopwith Camel single-seat fighter, and scored his first victory on 22 January 1918. Further victories followed, and Todd had brought his score up to five by the end of March, to make him an ace. On 1 April 1918, the Royal Flying Corps was merged with the Royal Naval Air Service to form the Royal Air Force, and his unit became No. 70 Squadron RAF. Early life and enlistment Frank Clifton Gorringe was born in Eastbourne, England on 30 September 1889. Gorringe was working as an express clerk when he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 23 September 1914, a week shy of his 25th birthday. Frank J. The enlistee was five feet six inches tall, had a fair complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes, and professed to belong to the Church of England.
