Frank Emerson
Frank Collins Emerson (May 26, 1882February 18, 1931) was an American engineer and politician from Wyoming. He was most notable for his service as the 15th Governor of Wyoming from January 3, 1927, until his death. Biography Frank C. Emerson was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 26, 1882. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1904 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. After graduating from college, Emerson relocated to Cora, Wyoming, where he became chief engineer of the Wyoming Land and Irrigation Company. He later worked for other corporations, including the Big Horn Canal Association, Lower Hanover Canal Association, Wyoming Sugar Company, and Worland Drainage District. From 1919 to 1926, Emerson served as Wyoming State Engineer. In this post, Emerson was one of the main proponents of the Colorado River Compact. In 1923, Governor William B. Nellie Tayloe Ross
Nellie Davis Tayloe Ross (November 29, 1876 – December 19, 1977) was an American educator and politician who served as the 14th governor of Wyoming from 1925 to 1927, and as the 28th and first female director of the United States Mint from 1933 to 1953. She was the first woman to serve as governor of a U.S. state, and remains the only woman to have served as governor of Wyoming. Ross was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, to James Wynns Tayloe, a native of Tennessee, and Elizabeth Blair Green, who owned a plantation on the Missouri River. Her family moved to Miltonvale, Kansas in 1884, and she graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1892. She attended a teacher-training college for two years and taught kindergarten for four years. 1930 Wyoming Gubernatorial Election
The 1930 Wyoming gubernatorial election took place on November 4, 1930. Incumbent Republican Governor Frank Emerson ran for re-election. As was the case with Emerson's first election in 1926, he faced a tight race. He was opposed by State Senator Leslie A. Miller, the Democratic nominee. Franklin Earl Lucas (August 4, 1876 – November 26, 1948) was an American businessman and politician from Wyoming. A Republican, he is most notable for his service as the 13th governor of Wyoming from 1924 until 1925. Lucas served as Secretary of State of Wyoming from 1923 to 1927, an office to which he was elected after previously serving in the Wyoming House of Representatives and Wyoming Senate. Biography Lucas was born in Grant City, Missouri on August 4, 1876. He was raised and educated in Bedford, Iowa, and left school after the eighth grade to begin training for a career in journalism as a printer's apprentice. After completing his apprentice ship and working for two Iowa newspapers, in 1899 he moved to Buffalo, Wyoming, where he became owner and publisher of the ''Buffalo Bulletin''. Cora, Wyoming
Cora is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sublette County, Wyoming. The population was 142 at the 2010 census. History Cora may have been named after Cora House, a cowgirl who lived in the area. In the early 20th century, the town post office was moved to its current site from a ranch one mile to the east. Dogsleds were once used to make winter deliveries to residents who lived in the Cora area and the rest of the Upper Green River valley. In 2011, the U.S. Postal Service considered closing the Cora post office for budgetary reasons. Residents of Cora protested and wrote letters to the USPS requesting that the post office remain open because it serves as a gathering place for the community.
