Frank Cox (director)
Frank Dixon Cox (28 May 1940 β 27 April 2021) was a British television director from the 1960s to the 1990s. He was married to actress Bridget Turner until her death in 2014. Cox studied English at the University of Leeds from which he graduated in 1962. He did not get into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), but took a job as a floor assistant at the BBC. He was then offered a position on the BBC's training course for directors. Among his first assignments were three episodes of the first season of '' Doctor Who''. Of all the directors who worked on the 1963 to 1989 run of '' Doctor Who'', Cox was the only one who did not direct an entire serial at some stage. He died in April 2021 at the age of 80. Bridget Turner
Bridget Joanna Turner (22 February 1939 β 27 December 2014) was an English actress. She played a radical English teacher, Judy Threadgold, opposite Alun Armstrong's woodwork teacher in Alan Plater's ''Get Lost!'' for Yorkshire Television, shown in 1981. Armstrong was unavailable for a sequel, so it was completely recast and became ''The Beiderbecke Affair'' with the parts going to Barbara Flynn and James Bolam. She played Phyllis in Alan Ayckbourn's TV film ''Season's Greetings (play)''. On 8 May 2009, John Cleese stated in an interview that Turner was the original choice in 1974 for the role of Sybil Fawlty in ''Fawlty Towers''. She turned it down and the part was given to Prunella Scales. Turner died on 27 December 2014 in Dorchester, Dorset, at the age of 75, and was survived by her husband, Frank Cox (director), Frank Cox. ''Sutherland's Law'' is a television series made by BBC Scotland between 1973 and 1976. The series had originated as a stand-alone edition of the portmanteau programme ''Drama Playhouse'' in 1972 in which Derek Francis played Sutherland and was then commissioned as an ongoing series. The producer was Frank Cox.Encyclopedia of Television Film Directors, , Jerry Roberts, Scarecrow Press 2009, p. 105 ''Sutherland's Law'' dealt with the duties of the Procurator Fiscal in a small Scottish town. The major cast members included Iain Cuthbertson (as John Sutherland), Gareth Thomas, Moultrie Kelsall, Victor Carin, Martin Cochrane, Don McKillop, Maev Alexander and Edith MacArthur. ''The Edge of Destruction'' (also referred to as ''Inside the Spaceship'') is the third serial of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. It was written by David Whitaker, and first broadcast on BBC TV in two weekly parts on 8 February and 15 February 1964. The first episode was directed by Richard Martin, while Frank Cox directed the second. In the story, the Doctor (William Hartnell), his granddaughter Susan (Carole Ann Ford), and her teachers Ian Chesterton ( William Russell) and Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill) are in the Doctor's time and space machine the TARDIS when it appears to be taken over by an outside force. ''Take the High Road'' (renamed ''High Road'' from 1994 to 2003) was a Scottish soap opera produced by Scottish Television, which started in February 1980 as an ITV network daytime programme, and was broadcast until 2003. It was set in the fictional village of Glendarroch, and exteriors were filmed in the real-life village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond.
