Frank Collier (26 April 1933 – 1 September 1989) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Wigan, Widnes and Salford, as a and . Background Frank Collier was born in Wigan, Lancashire, England, and he died aged 56. Wigan ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, on the River Douglas, Lancashire, River Douglas. The town is midway between the two cities of Manchester, to the south-east, and Liverpool, to the south-west. Bolton lies to the north-east and Warrington to the south. The 1957–58 Northern Rugby Football League season was the 63rd season of rugby league football. Season summary Hull F.C. won their fifth Championship when they beat Workington Town 20–3 in the play-off final. Oldham had finished the regular season as the league leaders. The Challenge Cup winners were Wigan who beat Workington Town 13–9 in the final. Oldham won the Lancashire League, and Halifax won the Yorkshire League. Bill Collier (English Rugby League)
Ernest Frederick "Bill" Collier (27 June 1921 – 19 October 2015) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s. Career Born in Kogarah, New South Wales, 'Bill' Collier played three seasons with St George Dragons during the war years between 1941 and 1943. He was the last living squad member of the victorious Dragons 1941 premiership season and the losing 1942 Grand Final. He played centre and lock-forward with St George during his time at the club. Collier was a father to 4 children, a grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 14 and lived much of his life in Kingsgrove, New South Wales. War service and later life Collier's rugby league career was curtailed by World War II. He served in the Australian Army between 1942 and 1946, and saw active service in New Guinea and Borneo. Station Road, Swinton
Station Road was a stadium in Pendlebury, near Manchester, England. It was the home of Swinton Rugby League Club between 1929 and 1992 and was widely recognised as one of the finest grounds in the Rugby League. Swinton moved to Station Road when they were at their peak, having won all four major trophies ("All Four Cups") the previous season, one of only three clubs (the others being Hunslet and Huddersfield) ever to do so. The decision to purchase the land, which stood alongside the railway line and Swinton railway station, was made after a breakdown in negotiations with their existing landlord at their Chorley Road ground, their home since 1887. The 1953–54 Rugby Football League season was the 59th season of rugby league football played in England. The championship, which involved thirty teams, started in August, 1953 and culminated in a finals play-off series in April, 1954 which resulted in a championship final between Warrington and Halifax. Hull Kingston Rovers are a professional rugby league club based in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England, that competes in the Super League, the top tier of British rugby league. Lance Todd Trophy
The Lance Todd Trophy is a trophy in rugby league, awarded to the annual Challenge Cup Final's man of the match. Introduced in 1945–46, the trophy was named in memory of Lance Todd, the New Zealand-born player and administrator, who was killed in a road accident during the Second World War. After Todd's death a fund, the Lance Todd memorial Trophy Fund, was established by Australian journalist and rugby league official Harry Sunderland. The trophy's winner is selected by the members of the Rugby League Writers' Association present at the game. Until 1957 there was no permanent trophy, instead the winner was given a cash prize with which to buy themselves a memento. In team sport, a player of the match or man of the match or woman of the match award is often given to the most outstanding player in a particular match.
