Life

Growing up in the bilingual Biel as the son of a watchmaker, Meyer did an apprenticeship as a typesetter. From 1968 to 1980 he was a partner of Mario Cortesi at the media company in his hometown of Biel.

Biel/Bienne lies on the language boundary between the French language, French-speaking and German language, German-speaking parts of Switzerland, and is bilingual throughout. ''Biel'' is the German name for the town; ''Bienne'' its French counterpart. The town is often referred to in both languages simultaneously.
