Francisco Ruiz-Tagle
Francisco Antonio Pascual de la Ascensión Ruiz de Tagle y Portales (; c. 1790 – March 23, 1860) was a Chilean political figure. In 1830, he was briefly Provisional President of the Republic of Chile, elected by Congress. Biography He was born in Santiago; the son of Manuel Ruiz de Tagle y Jaraquemada and María del Rosario Portales Larraín. In his youth and according to the social norms of the time, he also became a militia officer in the "''Regimiento del Principe''" (Prince's regiment). He married Rosario Larraín Rojas and had nine children. The son of a royalist family, he was a tepid participant in the Chilean War of Independence, especially during the period of the first government juntas. After the Battle of Maipu, he became an ardent independentist and joined the Conservative party. Beginning in 1811, he represented Los Andes in parliament. Francisco De La Lastra
General Francisco de la Lastra y de la Sotta (; October 4, 1777 – May 13, 1852) was a Chilean military officer and the first Supreme Director of Chile (1814). Biography He was born in Santiago de Chile, the son of Antonio de la Lastra Cortés and of María de la Sotta y Águila. As a young man, he was sent to Spain to pursue his studies, and served in the Royal Spanish Navy, was promoted to navy lieutenant in 1803, and remained till 1807. He returned to Chile in 1811. From the very beginning was a part of the independence movement that swept Chile from 1810 onwards. Once back he held different military assignments, enlisted in the revolutionary army, and was appointed political and military governor of Valparaiso. He organized in that port the militia and naval reserve, and also established arsenals for its defence. Ventura Blanco Encalada
Ventura Blanco y Calvo de Encalada (c. July 14, 1782 – June 13, 1856) was a Chilean political figure. Blanco Encalada was born in Chuquisaca, Bolivia, the son of Manuel Lorenzo Blanco Cicerón and of Mercedes Calvo de Encalada y Recabarren (a Spanish father and a Chilean mother). He was trained for the Army in Spain, where he became a ''Guard de Corps'' and a lieutenant in the ''Regimiento de Dragones de Sangunto''. During the Peninsular War, he supported Joseph Bonaparte and eventually was forced to emigrate to France. He returned to Buenos Aires in 1816, and moved to Chile in 1820, where his younger brother Manuel was an important political figure who went on to become its first President. In 1826, President Ramón Freire named him Minister of Government and Foreign Affairs and in 1827, Vice President Francisco Antonio Pinto named him Secretary of Treasury. Juan Francisco Meneses
Juan Francisco Meneses Echanes (June 24, 1785 – December 25, 1860) was a Chilean priest and political figure. Early life Meneses was born in Santiago, the son of José Ignacio Meneses and of Micaela Echanes. He studied humanities, philosophy and law (both civil and canonic) at the Convictorio de San Carlos, and later graduated from the Universidad de San Felipe on August 29, 1804 as a doctor in "both sciences" (Doctor in Civil and Canonic Law.) In 1808 he married Carmen Bilbao, with whom he had several children. The same year he was named secretary to Royal Governor Francisco García Carrasco. Manuel Bulnes
Manuel Bulnes Prieto (; December 25, 1799 – October 18, 1866) was a Chilean military and political figure. He was twice President of Chile, from 1841 to 1846 and from 1846 to 1851. Born in Concepción, he served as the president of Chile between 1841 and 1851. At the age of 16 he was imprisoned as a revolutionary by the Spanish authorities, but was soon released, and in 1818 joined the army of San Martin under whom he served as colonel throughout the Chilean War of Independence. After three years of continuous warfare (1820–23), he accomplished the temporary conquest of the Araucanian Indians. He was appointed brigadier general in 1831.
