Francisco Morales (baseball)
Francisco Javier Morales (born October 27, 1999) is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies. Career Philadelphia Phillies Morales signed with the Philadelphia Phillies organization as an international free agent on July 2, 2016. He made his professional debut with the GCL Phillies, posting a 3–2 record and 3.05 ERA in 10 appearances. The next year, Morales played for the Low-A Williamsport Crosscutters, logging a 4–5 record and 5.27 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 56.1 innings of work. In 2019 he played for the Single-A Lakewood BlueClaws, pitching to a 1–8 record and 3.82 ERA with 129 strikeouts in 96.2 innings pitched. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The Erie SeaWolves are an United States, American professional baseball team based in Erie, Pennsylvania. They compete in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) as a member of the Eastern League (1938–present), Eastern League's Southwest Division, serving as the Double-A (baseball), Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The team was founded in and began playing in Erie for the season. The SeaWolves currently play their home games at UPMC Park in downtown Erie, a part of the Louis J. In baseball, a save (abbreviated SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. Most commonly a pitcher earns a save by entering in the ninth inning of a game in which his team is winning by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching one inning without losing the lead. The number of saves or percentage of save opportunities successfully converted are oft-cited statistics of relief pitchers, particularly those in the closer role. The save statistic was created by journalist Jerome Holtzman in 1959 to "measure the effectiveness of relief pitchers" and was adopted as an official Major League Baseball (MLB) statistic in 1969. The save has been retroactively tabulated for pitchers before that date. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League (IL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. They are located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and are named in reference to pig iron, used in the manufacturing of steel, for which the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania is well known. The IronPigs play their home games at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown. Following the 2007 season, the Ottawa Lynx relocated to Allentown as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
