Francisco Martínez (basketball)
Francisco "Kiko" Martínez Cordero (June 20, 1910 – December 1, 1993) was a Mexican basketball player. He competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. Born in Ciudad Juárez, Martínez was part of the Mexican basketball team that won the bronze medal. He played in six of the squad's matches. Following his Olympic experience, Martínez played college basketball at New Mexico A&M University (now New Mexico State University). He played at the school from 1936 to 1939, earning first team All-Border Conference in 1938 and 1939. As a senior, he led the Aggies to the 1939 National Invitation Tournament in New York City. Martínez' grandson Román Martínez also represented Mexico as a part of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Francisco Martínez de Baeza was the colonial governor of New Mexico from November 1634 to 18 April 1637. He was heavily criticized for rejecting the participation of Franciscan missions in the territory, for impeding the conversion of indigenous people to Christianity, and for exploiting the labor of these people. Biography Although the time and place of his birth are unknown, it is believed that he was born in Seville, Spain. He was appointed governor of Spain's New Mexico colony and installed in that office in late November 1634, succeeding Francisco de la Mora y Ceballos. He used the settlers and, especially, the native population as labor, making this activity his main function. Francisco Martínez Soria (December 18, 1902 – February 26, 1982) better known as Paco Martínez Soria was a Spanish actor. He was born in Tarazona, Zaragoza, Aragon. Biography Although he was born in Tarazona, he was only five when his family moved to Barcelona, where he went to school. He worked as a clerk and then as a salesperson. At the same time he participated in performances of local theatre groups in Gràcia. During the Spanish Civil War he left his work and focused on theatre as an amateur actor. In 1938 he debuted in Teatro Fontalba with the theatre company of Rafael López Somoza with the work ''Antonio pasó el infierno'' (Antonio goes to hell). Two years later he founded his own theatre company with which he worked during the 1940s from Teatro Urquinaona and in the 1950s from Talía theatre. He is a world champion in two weight classes, having held the IBF featherweight title from 2021 to 2022, and the IBF super-bantamweight title from 2013 to 2014.
