Franciscan Health Mooresville in Mooresville, Indiana, traces its roots to a private sanitarium opened in 1881. The Morgan County hospital is home to the Franciscan Health Center for Hip and Knee Surgery. Kendrick Memorial Hospital Kendrick Memorial Hospital began in 1880 as a private practice established by Dr. Clark Robbins, specializing in colon and rectal diseases. Clark built a sanitarium in 1900; he died in 1906. The sanitarium continued to operate under his son-in-law, Dr. E. Bert Hadley. Charles Comer became part owner in 1917 and changed the name to Comer Sanitarium. When the sanitarium burned down in 1936, Comer continued the practice from his home. Comer's sons joined the practice and changed the name to Comer Hospital. In 1948 the practice eventually came to Dr. Kenneth Comer, who with his partner, Dr. William Kendrick, renamed the facility the Comer-Kendrick Sanitarium. Mooresville is a town in Brown Township, Morgan County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 9,326. History Mooresville was founded in 1824 by Samuel Moore, and named for him. A post office has been in operation at Mooresville since 1826. The Mooresville Commercial Historic District, Mooresville Friends Academy Building, and Mooresville Gymnasium are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mooresville Chamber of Commerce has been credited for bringing the town through many changes and updates to modernize public spaces for the modern era. This is largely due in part to the Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Melinda "Mindy" Taylor, who, aside from being credited as the originator of the phrase "cool beans" (a slang term for positive response), has been a constant agent of change for the betterment of the community. ''The Times of Northwest Indiana'' (NWI) is a daily newspaper headquartered in Munster, Indiana. It is the second-largest newspaper in Indiana, behind only ''The Indianapolis Star''. History The paper was founded on June 18, 1906, as ''The Lake County Times''. Its founder, Simon McHie, was a native of a small town along the Niagara River in Canada. In 1933, the name was changed to ''The Hammond Times'', and it became an afternoon paper serving Hammond, Whiting, and East Chicago. In May 1962, the McHie family sold the publication to Robert S. Howard of Howard Publications. The paper expanded to all of northwest Indiana in 1967 and dropped Hammond from its masthead to become simply ''The Times''.
