Francis Wilson (English Cricketer)
Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Tyrwhitt Drake Wilson, OBE (9 April 1876 – 19 March 1964) was a British Army officer and cricketer who played minor counties cricket for Suffolk and first-class cricket for Army, Army and Navy, and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) sides. Born in Cottesbrooke, a small Northamptonshire village, Wilson was the oldest of three cricketing brothers, each of whom played for Suffolk in the Minor Counties Championship. The youngest brother, Herbert Wilson, went on to play for (and briefly captain) Sussex, playing more than 100 matches over eleven seasons at the club. The three brothers played together on numerous occasions, from the 1908 season through to the 1910 season. Francis Wilson was the last brother to debut for Suffolk, but on his debut against Norfolk in June 1908, which marked the first time the three brothers appeared together, he scored 183 runs. Francis Gordon Wilson
Francis Gordon Wilson (27 November 1900 – 23 February 1959) was an Australian born, New Zealand architect. Wilson oversaw the design of New Zealand’s state housing programme from the 1930s onwards. He was the New Zealand Government Architect at the time of his death. Early life and education Wilson was born on 27 November 1900 in Subiaco, a district of Perth, Western Australia to Mary Catherine (nee O’Hagan) and Francis "Frank" John Wilson. His father was a New Zealander by birth while his mother was of Irish descent. The couple had a second son, Leslie, who was born in 1902. The family moved to New Zealand to attend a family reunion and due to the possibility of Wilson’s father obtaining the commission to design the Palmerston North Opera House. The family moved to New Zealand in 1903, and made their home in Wellington. Francis Wilson (17 May 1939 – 24 April 2022) was a South African economist. Biography He was the son of the anthropologists Godfrey Wilson and Monica Wilson. Wilson attended St. Andrew's College, Grahamstown. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in physics from the University of Cape Town and a master’s degree in economics as well as a doctorate, both from the University of Cambridge. Wilson was a member of the academic teaching staff in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. He was the founder and director of the Southern African Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU). He was also a visiting professor at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. In 2001 Wilson chaired the International Social Science Council’s Scientific Committee of the International Comparative Research Program on Poverty. Francis Wilson (February 7, 1854 – October 7, 1935) was an American actor. Career Wilson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began his career in a minstrel show with Haverly's United Mastodon Minstrels, but by 1878 was playing at the Chestnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia, and the next year appeared in ''M'liss'' with Annie Pixley. After several years in regular comedy, he took up some comic opera, appearing with the McCaull Comic Opera Company and making a great success in ''Erminie'' (1886). In 1889, leaving New York's Casino Theatre, he made his appearance as a star in '' The Oolah''. Plays in which he starred subsequently include ''The Merry Monarch'' (1890); ''The Lion Tamer'' (1891); ''The Little Corporal'' (1898); ''The Little Father of the Wilderness'' (1905); 'nd ''The Bachelor's Baby'' (1909), which he also wrote. Francis Wilson (footballer)
Francis Heathcote Wilson (9 April 1848 – 11 September 1886) was an association footballer and barrister who played in the 1875 and 1876 FA Cup finals. Education Wilson was the son of Robert Wilson, the vicar of Ampfield, and given the middle name Heathcote in honour of Sir William Heathcote, who donated the vicarage to the church. Wilson went up to Eton in 1860 and left in 1866. On leaving he matriculated at University College, Oxford and took his Bachelor of Arts in 1871. Football career The first known association football match in which Wilson played was for a Wanderers XI against a XII from the Oxford Amalgamation club (the combined members of the athletics societies at the University of Oxford) at the Parks in November 1869. Manorina Melanotis
The black-eared miner (''Manorina melanotis'') is an endangered honeyeater endemic to mallee woodland in south-eastern Australia. Taxonomy ''Manorina melanotis'' was identified by Francis Erasmus Wilson in 1911. It is closely related to the much more widely distributed yellow-throated miner ''M. flavigula'', and the taxonomic status of the black-eared miner is the subject of some controversy, with some researchers considering it a subspecies of ''M. flavigula''. Behaviour Black-eared miners are co-operative breeders, living in colonies during the breeding season, and dispersing into the bush during non-breeding periods.
