Francis Vine
Francis "Pop" Vine (1 October 1904 – 6 October 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Vine is one of just four players in VFL/AFL history to play in a premiership on debut, along with William James (Australian rules footballer), Bill James, George Rawle and Marlion Pickett. He had been called up, to play the 1926 VFL Grand Final, as a replacement player for Bob Corbett (footballer), Bob Corbett. A centre half-back, Vine was club captain in 1932 and 1933. The Old Melburnians Football Club, also known as Old Melburnians, is an Australian rules football club composed of Melbourne Grammar School alumni, based in Port Melbourne, Victoria. The team is, along with Old Caulfield Grammarians, the (equal) second oldest consecutively competing team in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) (the oldest being Collegians). Metropolitan Junior Football Association (1892-1911) The Metropolitan Junior Football Association (MJFA) was founded in 1892. Bob Corbett (footballer)
Robert "Bob" Corbett (23 November 1895 – 10 June 1957) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Corbett, a centreman, came originally from Ballarat team Golden Point and was already 24 by the time he made his VFL debut in 1920. He was a constant fixture in the Melbourne side during the 1920s and a regular interstate representative. Just before half time in the 1926 Preliminary Final, Corbett was struck in the face and knocked to the ground by Essendon player Charlie May. Despite returning to the field later in the game, he missed out on playing in Melbourne's premiership win the following week, diagnosed with a broken jaw. George Rawle
George Rawle (2 December 1889 – 12 June 1978) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the VFL during the 1920s. Rawle suffered a severe ankle injury when a boy, and the bone calloused, leading to the foot being badly deformed. Rawle tightly bandaged the injured foot, which enabled him to play. Family The son of Hubert Trevillian Rawle (1854-1921), and Annie Maria Rawle (-1971), née Basedahl, George Rawle was born at North Melbourne, Victoria on 2 December 1889. He married Lillian Charlott Allan (1894-1962) in 1917. Their son, Keith, later became an Essendon premiership player. Football Rawle was 33 years old when he made his league debut with Essendon in 1923, the second oldest to debut in history behind his teammate Charlie Hardy. William James (Australian Rules Footballer)
William Roy James (10 May 1900 – 27 December 1966) was an Australian rules footballer who played one game with the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League—the 1920 VFL Grand Final. James came from Kyabram, and his only game landed him a VFL premiership medallion. He helped Richmond earn the Tigers their inaugural VFL premiership, with his only goal late in the last quarter sealing the victory. James was retrospectively awarded a life membership for his contribution.
