Francis Townsend Underhill
Francis Townsend Underhill (25 February 1863 – 1929) was a politician from the U.S. state of New York (state), New York and an amateur architect in California. Biography Born in Oyster Bay (town), New York, Oyster Bay, New York, he was a ninth-generation descendant of Captain John Underhill. Underhill was raised by his aunts as his parents (James Week Underhill, 1819-1868; Margaret Varnum) died when he was of a young age. He was educated by tutors in the US and abroad, studying architecture and landscape architecture. Underhill married Henrietta Graham Meyer in 1883. Their three daughters, Margaret Varnum Underhill (born 1885), Katherine Underhill (born 1892), and Dorothy Underhill (born 1894), were raised at the family's Oyster Bay estate. Mission Santa Barbara ( es, link=no, Misión de Santa Bárbara) is a Spanish mission in Santa Barbara, California. Often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Missions,’ it was founded by Padre Fermín Lasuén for the Franciscan order on December 4, 1786, the feast day of Saint Barbara, as the tenth mission of what would later become 21 missions in Alta California. Mission Santa Barbara, like other California missions, was built as part of a broader effort to consolidate the Spanish claim on Alta California in the face of threats from rival empires. ''Purity'' is a 1916 American silent drama film, directed by Rae Berger and starring Audrey Munson, an artist's model who posed for many statues in New York City and the 1915 San Francisco Panama–Pacific International Exposition. The film's plot was written by Clifford Howard, art direction was by Edward Langley, and choreography was by Geneva Driscoll. The film's nude scenes caused it to be banned and preached against in some towns. Plot Following a prologue introducing Munson, poet Thorton Darcy is writing an allegorical poem, which the film enacts with Munson portraying Virtue who meets beings such as the Muses and Evil. The Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara is a luxury resort hotel located in Santa Barbara, California known for its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and gardens. It opened in 1927 as the Santa Barbara Biltmore, part of the Bowman-Biltmore Hotels chain. José Antonio de la Guerra y Noriega (March 6, 1779 – February 18, 1858) was a Californio military officer, ranchero, and founder of the prominent Guerra family of California. He served as the Commandant of the Presidio of Santa Barbara and the Presidio of San Diego. Biography José de la Guerra was born 1779 at Novales, Cantabria, Spain.
