Francis Rome
Major General Francis David Rome, (1905–1985) was a senior officer in the British Army who served as Commandant of the British Sector in Berlin from 1956 to 1959. Military career Rome was commissioned into the British Army in 1925. He transferred to the Royal Fusiliers in 1927. He served in the Second World War, latterly as commander of 111th Indian Infantry Brigade. After the war he became commander of 3rd Parachute Brigade in Palestine from 1946 and then commander of 1st Parachute Brigade in Palestine from 1947. He was appointed Assistant Commandant at the School of Land/Air Warfare in 1948 and Deputy Adjutant General at Far East Land Forces in 1950. He was then made General Officer Commanding 16th Airborne Division in 1953 and Commandant of the British Sector in Berlin in 1956; he retired in 1959. General Geoffrey Kemp Bourne, Baron Bourne, (5 October 1902 – 26 June 1982) was a British Army officer. Military career Commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1923, Bourne served in Hong Kong from 1930 to 1932, in Gibraltar from 1933 and 1934, in the Staff College, Camberley in 1935 and 1936, and in Colchester in 1937. In 1938 and 1939, he was General Staff Officer at the War Office. During the Second World War, Bourne was a member of the Joint Planning Staff between 1939 and 1941, and a member of the Joint Staff Mission in Washington, D.C. in 1942. In 1944, he was Commander of the 152nd (Ayrshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, fighting in Italy, and member of the General Staff Airborne Corps fighting in Belgium. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". General Sir Kenneth Thomas Darling (17 September 1909 – 31 October 1998) was a senior British Army officer who after serving with distinction during the Second World War was Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of Allied Forces Northern Europe 1967–69. Early life Darling was born in British India, the eldest son of George Kenneth Darling (1879–1964) of the Indian Civil Service and his wife Mabel Eleanor, née Burgess (d. 1952). His younger brother, the future Major General Douglas Darling (1914–1978), was also to become a distinguished soldier. Major General James Francis Harter DSO MC (1888–1960) was a British Army officer who became colonel of the Royal Fusiliers. Military career Harter was commissioned into the Royal Fusiliers, after having graduated from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, in October 1907. Harter served with his regiment in World War I, being wounded in 1914 and then, as a captain, being awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1918.
